Description
On June 29, 1978, TV PERSONALITY BOB CRANE WAS MURDERED IN A MOTEL IN SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA.
Based on Robert Graysmith's book "The Murder of Bob Crane, the film "Auto Focus" by Paul Schrader documents the life and death of Bob Crane, the likable and charming star of TV's Hogan's Heroes. Buzz on the film is "brilliant" -- that Greg Kinnear is almost eerie in the way that he's managed to adopt the star's looks mannerisms, as he goes about balancing home family with a demanding public life and a lurid private life.
Crane's parasitic friend, and most likely his killer, video equipment salesman John Carpenter, is played by the always incredible Willam Defoe. Crane himself is portrayed as an apparent nice guy looking for sexual liberation in seedy dives, a guy who has a difficult time saying no to the wrong people. As one reviewer has said, "... it's never fully clear why anyone would sacrifice their inhibitions to their demons with so much at stake." Maybe the film will give us some insight. If this film isn't 100% accurate, and of course it isn't, at least it will be better to Crane's memory and more accurate than the innuendo and utter crap you're going to get from visiting a bunch of crappy yahoo clubs (like this one) -- hopefully it will serve to put a lot of idiotic stuff to rest. I can't wait to see it!!
