I'm a Portland-area (Cape Elizabeth) film composer who's searching for musicians
to perform on some score work. It's not a paying gig (at this point) but a fun,
collaborative opportunity with some potential, and obviously anything that makes
it to a finished project would be fully credited.

Primarily seeking classically-trained female vocalists (all ranges) to perform
both vocalise pieces and lyrical works; proficiency with foreign languages
(particularly Eastern European or Latin) would be a definite plus.

Also on the lookout for musicians who play orchestral instruments; I've got a
well-established network of players of the more usual instruments (guitar, bass,
drums, etc) and am a multi-instrumentalist myself so those areas are pretty well
covered, but I definitely want to incorporate other instruments into some
projects. So if you play oboe, bassoon, cor anglais, symphonic percussion,
violin, etc. I'd like to hear from you.

It's about a 50/50 mix of written scores and guided improvisation.

Broadway Star Announced for Good Theater’s Holiday Show

Norm Lewis, a Drama Desk Award nominee, will be this year’s headliner for the annual Broadway at Good Theater concerts December 3-6.  Mr. Lewis was most recently seen on Broadway as King Triton in The Little Mermaid at the Lunt Fontanne Theatre. His other Broadway credits include:  Javert in the recent revival of Les Miserables, Billy Flynn in Chicago, Jake in Side Show, John in Miss Saigon, as well as The Wild Party, The Who’s Tommy and Armor.  He recently released an album of show tunes entitled:  Norm Lewis, This is the Life.

Joining him will be three special guests:  Kelly Caufield, a Good Theater regular; singing sensation Marva Pittman who will be making her fourth appearance with Good Theater; and Dennis St. Pierre who starred as Jean Valjean in Maine State Music Theater’s recent production of Les Miserables.

These four guests will join Good Theater favorites Grace Bradford, Jen Means, Marc Brann, Stephen Underwood, Jennifer Manzi Macleod, Todd & Katie Daley, and Brian P. Allen. New performers to the Good Theater stage include Marie Dittmer, Devon Dukes, John Adams, Benjamin Row and Lady Zen.

Broadway at Good Theater plays for five performances December 3 – 6: Thursday 7:30 ($25), Friday 7:30 ($25), Saturday 3:00 ($25) & 8:00 ($30) and Sunday 2:00 ($30).  For reservations and additional information patrons should call the Good Theater box office at 207-885-5883 or go to the Good Theater website at www.goodtheater.com.

Broadway at Good Theater is the annual holiday fundraising concert for the organization.  Proceeds benefit Good Theater and their season of plays and musicals.  In the past, all five concerts have sold-out, so patrons are advised to get their tickets early.

This unique event mixes Broadway hits with holiday favorites.  Act one is devoted to the music of Broadway.  This year patrons will hear songs from South Pacific, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Chess, Hair, Man of LaMancha and many others.  Act two highlights songs of the holiday season.  In addition to well-known numbers like “Sleigh Ride,” “What Child Is This,” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” singers will feature some lesser known Christmas songs as well (“Cool Yule,” “Blue Holiday,” “Three Wishes for Christmas”).

Good Theater is the professional theater in residence at the St. Lawrence Arts Center, 76 Congress Street, on Munjoy Hill, in Portland.  Upcoming productions at Good Theater include:  The Spitfire Grill (January 21 – February 14) and The Importance of Being Earnest (March 4 - 28).

Passed on from The RI Film Office...
The State Office of Film & TV Needs Your Help:
Dear Friends of Rhode Island Film & Television Production,
For the last five years, we've worked hard to bring an unprecedented amount of
film and television production here to our Ocean State, while providing many new
opportunities for students, crew, vendors, talent, location owners and film
festivals. A few examples of the productions we've hosted include three seasons
of the Peabody award winning Showtime series BROTHERHOOD, the People's Choice
best comedy 27 DRESSES starring Katherine Heigl, Steve Carell's DAN IN REAL
LIFE, the Richard Gere family film, HACHIKO, Walt Disney's UNDERDOG, as well as
EVENING, TELL TALE, TANNER HALL, HOUSE RULES, THE CLIQUE and many more. We are
currently hopeful for the future of film and television in Rhode Island as we
strive diligently to bring more productions home and anticipate an active year
ahead.

Once again, we need your help!
With our state's current fiscal challenges, it is essential we receive feedback
from individuals and companies that have been positively impacted by the film
and television productions, and, more importantly, by the overall impact of the
Motion Picture Incentive Program. Notwithstanding the slowdown of growth due to
the recently enacted "cap" on the tax credit program, we are interested in how
the Motion Picture Incentive Program has helped you and/or your business in the
last five years.

For example, if you are a crew member, how many productions did you work on in
the past five years in Rhode Island and what was the economic impact to you
personally? Did your work in the film industry positively affect your
personal/family life? Were you able to spend more time at home rather than
travel out of state to practice your craft? Were you able to buy a home or start
a new business? Did you receive health insurance? If you are a business/vendor,
has your income grown as a direct result of having Hollywood set up shop here?
Did you hire additional personnel or increase hours for your current staff? Were
you able to save a job? How much did your company earn by providing goods and/or
services to productions in Rhode Island? Most importantly, would you like to see
additional productions filmed in Rhode Island?

This information is crucial to the survival of the Motion Picture Incentive
Program. If the program has had a positive impact on YOUR life or business,
please take a moment to send us a one-page written testimonial by Friday,
November 13, 2009. Attached is a copy of a letter we received from one of our
local vendors which you can use as an example. We look forward to hearing from
you. Thank you for your time.

Warmest regards,
Steven Feinberg

Synopsis: Bill and Faye Madison's marriage is on the brink of divorce. The only

This non-SAG romantic comedy, expected to be roughly 20-25 minutes, will be shot
in the town of Wolfeboro, NH and will be screened there as well. The film is
being made in conjunction with Wolfeboro Community Television and will be shown
on local public access television. All actors will receive a copy of the
finished DVD and notice of all film festivals that the film gains entry into. We
are entering the film in regional film festivals at this point, and will submit
to additional festivals based on its success. Attached is a copy of the

WEB PRESS RELEASE for Filmmakers:
From: www.7DayPSA.org
7 D A Y P S A
A RIIFF Creative Impulse Award Competition
www.7DayPSA.org
The Rhode Island International Film Festival Announces the Beginning of a New
National Filmmaking Competition.

The 7DAYPSA is a week long competition, where teams (called "Agencies") beat the
clock to produce three broadcast quality versions (20, 30 & 60 seconds) of a
single public service announcement for the deserving local not-for-profit
organization (called "Clients") that the Agency teams have randomly drawn at the
start of the competition. Multiple "Clients" will have PSA's produced and
several "Agency" teams will be producing for the same "Client" organization.
Each "Agency" will have seven days to go from concept to completion. For the
Agency teams, this will be a writing challenge, a shooting challenge, and an
editing challenge. The object is to get as many completed professional broadcast
quality public service announcements for the clients to choose from as possible.
The seven day period allows for this, as well as for the opportunity for media
and marketing classes to use the competition as a teaching tool during the
school week.

The "Seven Day PSA" Competition (7DAYPSA) was conceived by Duncan B. Putney, an
Emmy winning writer and the creative producer of Original Concept & Development
Associates (www.OCDA.biz). This national competition has been created for the
non-profit Flicker's Art Collaborative/Rhode Island International Film
Festival's Creative Impulse Award brand (www.Film-Festival.org). The purpose of
this new type of competition is to challenge local filmmakers to use their
skills and energy to meet a major need of local non-profit organizations, giving
the filmmakers not only a great experience and a good feeling, but also a
broadcast credit for their resumes. In an economic climate when deserving
non-profit organizations are struggling for resources to operate, they do not
have the funds to produce a broadcast quality public service announcement to
raise awareness of their organization. It is this current lack of public
awareness that impacts both their ability to raise funds and to make the public
aware of their services. Media outlets that had once been able to both produce
and air public service announcements for free, no longer have the available
production resources or personnel to produce those PSA's. But there is a
resource that is going untapped. Local independent filmmakers have the skills to
produce original and imaginative short films and are looking to garner
professional credits for their resumes. The 7DAYPSA competition will bring
filmmakers and not-for-profits together to provide these deserving organizations
with a broadcast quality PSA and also a commitment from local media outlets to
air the spots. This is a real feel good competition. Additional competition
cities will be announced in January and the winners of each local "Best 7DAYPSA"
will compete for a "National Best 7DAYPSA." In addition, each PSA chosen for
broadcast will be eligible for submission by the 7DAYPSA for awards such as Emmy
and Telly Awards.

Call for Feature Length Films for Maine Made Film Series

ELLSWORTH â€" The Grand Auditorium, Hancock County’s arts and cultural center
is presenting a “Made in Maine†Film Series. We are looking to give serious
Maine filmmakers a platform to showcase their work and also present the Maine
film audience with some home grown alternatives to today’s often lack luster
Hollywood blockbusters. This once a month series has already featured wonderful
works from filmmakers like Richard Kane of Blue Hill and the Imagination Project
at the Stonington Opera House in Stonington.

We’re looking for feature length films, fictional narrative or documentary, or
a collection of materials which would fill between one to two hours of
programming. Filmmakers are encouraged to be present at the event to personally
introduce their projects and interact with the audience. Films should be
original works by Maine based filmmakers or films featuring Maine’s people,
places, or events.

Seems like only a couple weeks ago we were putting on another Weekend Film School, actually, it was. Our South Portland Weekend Film School was a great experience for all our participants! For those of you in the New Hampshire area or southern Maine, I wanted to let you know that we have relocated our upcoming Waltham, MA workshop to Portsmouth, New Hampshire coming up on November 7th & 8th. All the usual details follow...

We are all story tellers. Everyone has a story to tell. Whether it's an idea for a great script, your family history or you want to share your company or organization's vision, these are all stories and one of the most compelling ways to share them is visually, through film. Filmmaking is a powerful medium that can accomplish so much, from educating and informing to entertaining, in a short amount of time.

In this two-day intensive workshop you will be introduced to the entire movie making process, both narrative and documentary style. Local professionals specializing in different aspects of filmmaking will lead mini-workshops over the course of the weekend, ranging from screenwriting to lighting & camera work to editing. Working in production teams you will get a chance to make a short film scene as part of this whirlwind weekend. From concept to final cut, we will walk you through it all.

The goal of the weekend will be to prepare you to make your very own project, to tell your story, whether it be a short film, a documentary, a commercial or web-based project, all the while networking you with other aspiring, local filmmakers. Take a look at the topics  we'll be covering. Space will be limited to only 8 participants!

Come follow us on Twitter @nefilmacademy and $100 off the cost of the workshop! Tell a friend and come join us as The New England Film Academy presents another Weekend Film School coming up on November 7th & 8th!

"I really loved the weekend workshop. Our whole crew learned a lot AND we had a great time. Thank you again. The New England Film Academy hosted an outstanding program and we all left hoping to return soon."

Hi! How are you? I know, right?

Just wanted to let you know about the new short film by Tasty Dude Films. It's
a silent tragicomedy art-house black-and-white pretentious-fest "movie" in the
style of those films you didn't understand in Film Appreciation 101 but you
pretended you did anyway just to impress that girl that sat in front of you.

Anyway, here's the link: http://tastydudefilms.com/sourdough.html

Take it easy. You work too hard.

Love,

MARIA MULDAUR IN CONCERT AT CUMSTON!

Monmouth, Maine –Maria Muldaur, “America’s First Lady of Roots Music,” is coming to perform at Cumston Hall in Monmouth on Tuesday, November 10th at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are just $17, and will contribute to the breathtaking venue in which the concert will be held. Tickets are on sale now at www.theateratmonmouth.org or you can call 207-933-9999.

The concert is presented by The Friends of Cumston Hall as a fundraiser to help offset expenses for the ongoing restoration of Cumston Hall.  All proceeds will benefit this historic monument and monolith of the community.

Maria Muldaur is a folk-blues singer who was part of the folk music revival of the early 1960s. Best known to popular music audiences for her 1974 hit song “Midnight at the Oasis,” Muldaur has come full circle by returning to her roots in jug band music.

Though much of the repertoire of jug band music comes from the the 1920s and ’30s, the material certainly touches on current topics.

“Jug band music,” explains Muldaur, “which tends to be lighthearted, humorous and zany, emerged out of a period of hard times as a way of lifting people’s spirits.  So, once again, this will be Good Time Music for Hard Times! Everything Old is New Again!”

Muldaur found two songs from the Great Depression era called “Bank Failure Blues,” and “Doggone the Panic Is On!” Newer material includes two hilarious new songs written by singer-songwriter and friend Dan Hicks.

“I realized that this was actually a very timely project,” remembers Muldaur. “I discovered that there’s a whole new jug band revival going on out there. I’ve heard of bands recreating this music from Toronto to Timbuktu. Somebody told me there were 150 jug bands in Tokyo!”

The Friends of Cumston Hall is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring Cumston Hall, a 109 year old Victorian-style gem to its original beauty. Listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings since 1976, the Hall is a centerpiece to the town of Monmouth and is enjoyed by members of the town and surrounding communities If you would like to know more about The Friends of Cumston Hall, please visit their Web site: www.cumstonhall.org.

Hello,

I'm looking for a venue to show a few documentary films, preferably in the
Greater Portland area.

This event would take place on January 2, 2010, and would need to have space for
approx 100 people.

Already checked with SPACE, it's not available that day. Looking into One
Longfellow, haven't heard back yet.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Cathy
