With the entry of corporate in Tamil film industry; the costs of production as well as salary of the actors have also increased. An average of 120 films is being released every year. Rs 500 crores are being invested and business is done upto 1000 crores. This is inclusive of overseas rights. Tamil Producers would always like to invest a small amount and would like to yield more profit. But Corporates invest more money and tries to gain more profit. But if the film does not do well they incur heavy losses. In recent times many of such corporate houses had a great downfall because of the heavy losses they incur.
Since the production costs have been escalated, the salary of the actors has increased unimaginably.
Some of the salaries received by some of the actresses and actors are as follows
Nayanthara is still the number one in the field and she receives salary between Rs 60 to Rs 75 Lakhs. Trisha gets between Rs 30 to Rs 75 Lakhs. Thamanna demands between Rs 40 to Rs 60 Lakhs. Shreya’s take home pay is between Rs 50 to Rs 60 Lakhs.
Vikram is paid between Rs 3 to 5 Crores. Earlier he used to be paid Rs 40 Lakhs. Ajith is paid Rs 6 Crores and Surya’s salary is paid between Rs 5 to Rs 6 Crores. Vinay who had been paid Rs 1 Crore is now receiving a salary of Rs 2 to Rs 3 Crores. The Producers Council are requesting the actors to reduce the salary.

























Trisha, all set to begin shooting for her Bollywood debut Khatta Meetha, made a flying visit to Chennai to meet her family before the shoot starts. She returned from New York where she was shooting with Simbu for Gautham Menon's Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya. Now she is in Mumbai for Priyadarshan's film.
The shooting of reigning actress Trisha's debut Hindi film Khatta Meetha, being directed by her mentor Priyadarshan with Akshay Kumar as hero, has finally started in a remote village in Baramati, 100 kilometres from Pune.
For the first time in her career, South India's reigning actress Trisha will be seen opposite Tollywood's Jr. NTR in producer Dil Raju's Brindavanam with the tagline "Govindudu Andari Vaadele", to be directed by Vamsi Paidipalli under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations. The film is likely to start rolling in the second half of November.
Is it possible for a comedian like Brahmanandam in Telugu or Vadivelu in Tamil to overtake a leading heroine in terms of remuneration?
