Apart from this, one another update abt the movie. The cameraman Manikandan is
replaced with Mani's fav Santhosh Sivan. Sorry for not giving any links. But, I
read this newspapers(Dinamani, The Hindu) Its believed that as Manikandan is
charging "per day" kinda basis for Ads and all, he got relieved from Mani's
Ravana, as working in this movie may not fetch much money. After seeing a rush
of the already taken shots, Mani & Santhosh were not satisfied and they decided
to shoot all again right from the beginning. This is also again not a confirmed
news. The newspaper reported like this only.

CHENNAI: Director Mani Ratnam was admitted to Apollo Hospitals late Tuesday
evening after he complained of chest discomfort. According to a hospital
bulletin, his condition is stable. He is expected to remain in hospital for a
day. Sources close to the director's family said that it was just a routine
check-up. The doctors had advised complete rest for a couple of days.

Im writing after a long time.

i was in Uk. I watched all gthe movies of mani during the free time.

His best film was iruvar according to me. Coming to his worst film it
is definitely Dil se x.. Couldnt understand that film.

Also Guru was an average movie with scenes copied frm many movies.

But the best overall film with great acting and great collections was
definitely Dalapathi. rajnikant was superb.

Also I felt in Nayagan Rajnikant was suited to that role than
Kamalhassan. what do u guys say?

The reason behind choosing Govinda in the movie Ravan is that, Govinda plays a role of forest officer which refers Hanuman as in the ramayana. Story is something like, Abhishek is Ravana, Aishwarya Rai is Sita , Vikram is Rama. Abhishek's sister Priyamani will die because of Vikram.  So, Abhishek will kidnap Vikram's wife. i.e.Aishwarya. The rest of the story is about how Vikram will get his Aishwarya back with the help of Govinda...The stress is given in the personality of Abhishek.i.e.Ravana.
I am sure that though the story is known from Ramayana but still Mani's Creativity and Rahman's Music will drag everyone to theaters

Manis regular editor was Suresh urs for ROJA/DALAPATI/ GEETANJALI/ ETC. From Guru editing has been changed.
Suresh Urs is the best editor & has recived many national awards for Roja/bombay/ etc
For some reason Mani is not using him from 2 movies I dont know why
 
Till date  ALAYPAYUDHE is Mani great work in recent times  after ROJA. In banglore Urvashi theatre ALAYPAYUDHE ran for 25 weeks I came to india from  USA for vacation at that time . I saw it 4 times in same theatre.
Hope this new movie RAVAN will be a mega hit. I think after Manis heart attack 2 years back he has slowed down the work.

i can't see anyone praising the great Mr.Mohanlal in Iruvar, which was one of his great.
only because of some cheap politics he didn't get the national award that year.
remember one of Maniratnam's quote: "i often forgot to say cuts..as mohanlal was performing beyond his imagination". he even told priyadarshan that it is impossible to work with them whom he admire most (and mohanlal is one of them).
and If Iruvar was a gem for Mohanlal...it was Nayakan for kamalhaasan and Dalapathy for Rajanikanth (he never look so promosing in any of his other films)

           i agree with you,iam also not bother about the titles and dying very hard to see the movies of mani sir.he is my real life inspiration.i dont think again he will do a love story,it will be a description of social injustice.

Hi,

Nayagan is an awesome movie, Rajnikanth cant act the way kamal hasan has done. Kamal has justified the role to 100%.

Guru is not an average movie. Dont judge the movie based on the collection or hit. Most of the audience don't have the ability to reach the thoughts of maniratnam.

Anjali, Nayagan, Dalapathi and Geethanjali are Mani's best.

Hi Folks
 
Anjali has always been one of favorite MR picks if not the first one. I just happened to see some clippings of Extra Terrestrial -ET- of Steven Speilberg; the movie I had never seen before. There's a scene where some children were riding bicycle over the sky..an exact frame to frame match with Anjali song...Megam..Megam..dhooram sellum...not yet done; the children rode the bicyle crossing the Sun at sunset! catch the same scene in Anjali and investigate of the scene, its photography.....
