Lauren Helen Graham was born in 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii when her father was there on business. Her mother, Donna, left the family when Lauren was five moving to England to pursue a singing career, leaving Lauren’s father, Larry, to raise her as a single parent for about ten years in Virginia. Her stepmother, Karen, entered the family just as Lauren was entering her teen years, and shortly after the family welcomed Lauren’s half brother, Chris, and her half sister, Maggie.
Lauren moved to New York after high school and entered Barnard college as an English major. She worked various jobs while struggling to find acting gigs. She eventually moved to Texas to get her M.A. in Acting from Southern Methodist University.
Her first roles after moving to Hollywood included guest spots on shows like Caroline in the City, Law and Order, and Seinfeld. She also starred in a string of sitcoms including Conrad Bloom and M.Y.O.B. Her film include Nightwatch, the comedies Dill Scallion and Sweet November, the drama One True Thing with Meryl Streep, and the dark comedy, Bad Santa, starring Billy Bob Thornton.
She landed the role of sassy single mom, Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls on her birthday in the year 2000. Various accolades bestowed on the actress as Lorelai include a Golden Globe nomination, two consecutive SAG nods, and a Family Television Award all for Best Actress in a Drama.
Lauren is no stranger to the stage, starring in various productions in high school and college. In the summer of 2002, she performed at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in the play, Once in a Lifetime. In 2003 Lauren started a production company, Good Game, with the WB studios. She enjoys antique shopping, reading, and horseback riding. Lauren Graham lives primarily in Los Angeles, California and also has a residence in New York City.
