RUSSELL CROWE was so desperate to share his love of cycling with new movie
co-star ELIZABETH BANKS, he bought her a state-of-the-art bike.

Crowe and Banks play husband and wife in The Next Three Days, about a woman
wrongly accused of murder.

The actor used his time off set to cycle around the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
location, and he wanted to turn Banks into his biker buddy.

But she insists she was the wrong choice of cycling partner.

The actress explains, "Russell Crowe's an avid cyclist and he wanted to share it
with me so he bought me this beautiful mountain bike.

"It was super hi-tech, 21 gears. The thing is, I'm not very athletic. I had to
watch YouTube videos to learn how to change gears."

Oscar-winner Russell Crowe is getting ready to storm the silver screen as the
legendary hero 'Robin Hood,' and ET joins the star and his little boy Tennyson
on the film's set!

"It's a huge part of English-speaking peoples' history, Robin Hood -- possibly
the oldest-living story in the English language," Russell tells ET's Thea
Andrews about the classic tale of the outlaw known to steal from the rich and
give to the poor. "So, it is a big job to try and reshape that in peoples'
minds."

The film, expected in theaters May 14, 2010, co-stars Oscar-winner Cate
Blanchett as Maid Marian and re-teams Russell with his 'Gladiator' and 'American
Gangster' director Ridley Scott.

Back on the set, Russell's little boy Tennyson pays his proud papa a visit --
and shows ET what a big 'Robin Hood' fan he is by arming himself with a
play-sword and helmet!

"He's an actor, totally," Russell tells us.

A true gentleman, Russell Crowe took the time between scenes to shake hands with the crew for his new movie, The Next Three Days in Pittsburgh this afternoon. His face was noticeably scratched up with movie makeup, as he is filming a controversial thriller about a man who’s wife is accused of murder.

The Paul Haggis film will also star Olivia Wilde, Liam Neeson, Elizabeth Banks, and rapper Rza.

Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe has come to Pittsburgh for the filming
of his latest project.

Crowe is visiting the Allegheny County Jail today where he is filming scenes for
his latest project, a new movie titled "The Next Three Days."

Film crews are using the jail lobby, the visitors' center and outside of the
facility.

"I came here to do some research before I wrote it," said Paul Haggis, the
director and writer of the film. "So, I wrote it for Pittsburgh, which is great
to do because then you can use the actual locales and I got to do the research
here at the jail. It's a wonderful town, and really I didn't know what to
expect."

Family visits both today and Friday have been cancelled.

But Crowe is just the latest actor to bring a little bit of Hollywood to
Pittsburgh.

Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington and Oscar-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal are
filming movies here, too.

Washington is shooting an action film called "Unstoppable," while Gyllenhaal is
filming the romantic comedy "Love and Other Drugs" co-staring Anne Hathaway.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Liam Neeson has joined Russell Crowe and

Pittsburgh area.

The Lionsgate project revolves around a woman imprisoned for a murder she claims
she didn't commit and her college professor husband who decides to break her
out.

Neeson's scenes, which are cameo in nature, see the actor playing a man who
escaped from prison several times and wrote a book about the subject. He gives
advice to the professor.

Hollywood star Russell Crowe has arranged for a £60,000 prop from his new Robin
Hood film to be given to a battle re-enactment group in Scotland.

The battering ram will be used by the Clanranald Trust in a medieval fort it is
building in a forest near the Carron Reservoir in North Lanarkshire.

The trust's chief executive, Charlie Allan, became friends with Crowe during the
filming of Gladiator.

He played the German warrior who held the severed head of a Roman negotiator.

Mr Allan said: "Russell and I have kept in touch over the years and he knew a
bit about the fort we're building.

"While we were on the set (of Robin Hood) near Farnham in Surrey he suggested
trying to get some of the props.

"I had my eye on some tents, which I thought would look good until we got our
long houses built.

He said he'd do what he could to help and the very next day he came to me with a
huge grin on his face, grabbed me by the sleeve, pointed at the battering ram
and said, 'It's all yours'."

Mr Allan said the Australian actor had spoken to the executive producer, Charles
Schlissel, who said he would be delighted to help.

He added: "It was a fantastic gesture. The battering ram, which we called Rosie
on set, will be great for our fort."

The Clanranald Trust is a charitable organisation which aims to raise awareness
of Scottish culture and heritage through interactive education.

It is in the process of building a replica medieval Motte and Bailey Fort in the
Fintry Hills, which will serve as a an visitor attraction.

The idea is to provide an arena where groups and individuals can experience the
atmosphere of an authentic medieval working community.

So far the trust has spent about £350,000 on the project but still needs to
raise £250,000 to complete the fort.

The New Zealand star has teamed up with the English director several times,

"My thing with Ridley is what happens on the set - when we are on a set
together, we begin to see the world in the same way and it's just a really
enjoyable experience for me," he said.

"I have a lot of responsibility when I work with him but I have a lot of

I'm a time traveller and I can live in the world and that's a great privilege
and I really enjoy it.

"At the end of the day, he is a master of the cinema and I'm very lucky to know

RUSSELL CROWE flew out of Sydney on Monday bound for the US to start work on his
latest film The Next Three Days.

Barely a month after returning home and being reunited with his family in the
wake of finishing Ridley Scott film Robin Hood, Crowe was on the road again to
keep up with a hectic film career.

He and his PA, Texan Keith Rodger, flew to LA and were seen in Beverly Hills
yesterday, en route to Pittsburgh where Crowe will start production on the film
which will be directed by Paul Haggis.

When last we caught up with Crowe he was not looking forward to the separation
from his family, young sons Charlie, Tennyson and wife Danielle, nor the cold
Pittsburgh temperatures.

Crowe stars as a husband whose life is turned upside down when his wife is
accused of murder.

Crowe and his crew, on the move in Beverly Hills yesterday, were barely
recognised in non-Rabbitohs gear when our photographer spotted them. The star
was meeting with film executives in LA.

Crowe will return home for Christmas.

By Annette Sharp

IT IS an accepted view that if one lives by the sword, so might one expect to
die by it.

This week this columnist tasted the tip of her own sword - as thrust by the
Gladiator himself, Russell Crowe - after an item in Sydney Confidential raised
the actor's ire.

The story took a shot at Crowe's fitness after he was photographed puffing on a
fag while cycling in Sydney. After the bike ride he tucked into a plate of
tacos.

The next day the phone rang. It was Crowe's man in the city. Crowe was laying
down a challenge.

"Get on your bike. Russell wants you to go riding with him," the spokesman said,
adding: "Are you ready to die?"

When you make a living throwing stones you expect that one day someone is going
to lob one back. This was that day.

A 20km ride from Crowe's home at Woolloomooloo to Bondi was proposed. We were to
meet at dawn. Crowe's weapon of choice, the bike.

Having spent the past nine months honing his form to play Robin Hood in director
Ridley Scott's latest romp, Crowe was in good condition. Not so this mother of
three.

Crowe was waiting at the end of the wharf wearing a South Sydney vest. He
offered me one before asking: "You can ride a bike, right?"

We were joined by Crowe's assistant - biochemist turned businessman turned PA -
Texan Keith Rodger.

Within moments the actor had launched himself from the footpath and into the
early morning traffic. By the time I'd waited for the traffic to clear, Crowe
was out of sight. The game was to be cat and mouse and it seemed we'd be jumping
kerbs.

"You'll soon realise that from Woolloomooloo, everything is uphill," he called
over his shoulder after we'd found him.

He was right. We climbed up Bourke St and into Surry Hills, then turning our
bikes left to the new Redfern Park.

Crowe, the South Sydney team owner, is rightly proud of the transformation here.
At this point my duelling opponent had become a tour guide. "This is actually
not a workout. This is just something I love doing in Sydney," he explained,
"and LA."

Gallery: See Rusty and our Annette in action

On through Bondi Junction, up to Bellevue Hill to admire the outstanding view
north and east from the summit and then we headed into Cooper Park - off road.

I was sliding exuberantly down the track when, with a thump, I came off the seat
and landed painfully on the crossbar. Soon I was on the ground.

This was surely it. His victory moment, with me sprawled in the dirt. Yet he was
gracious, concerned - the perfect gentleman as he rolled up my trousers to check
my knee.

We got back on our bikes and rode on. Everyone should see Sydney like this.

When we emerged from the gully we were in Double Bay and Crowe decided I'd had
enough - 20.3km covered at a speed of 15km/h. Not bad for a first-timer.

"Better than Baz Luhrmann," he offered. "You're twice the man Baz is."

Crowe tells writer to get on bike

Russell Crowe challenged an Australian newspaper columnist to a cycle duel after
she mocked a picture of him smoking and eating on a bike ride.

The piece, in Sydney's Daily Telegraph, was headlined "smokes and fatty foods
the fitness regime for Rusty".

The Gladiator star then called the paper to challenge Annette Sharp to a 12-mile
(19.3km) race through the city.

Video of the early morning duel showed Crowe speeding along with Ms Sharp
struggling to keep up.

Crowe is shown telling Ms Sharp she is a better cyclist than Australian film
director Baz Luhrmann.

"He holds the record for the worst cycling tourist we've ever taken for a ride -
you are twice the man Baz Luhrmann is on a bicycle."

The Telegraph mocked Crowe last week after he was photographed taking a break
from a bike ride with his personal trainer to smoke a cigarette, eat tacos and
drink a soft drink.

The paper reported that Crowe's spokesman had called the next day and said: "Get
on your bike. Russell wants you to go riding with him.

"Are you ready to die?"

At one point during the pair's cycle trip, Ms Sharp fell off her bike.

After their duel, she wrote: "I was sliding exuberantly down the track when,
with a thump, I came off the seat and landed painfully on the crossbar.

"This was surely it - his victory moment. His victory moment, with me sprawled
in the dirt.

"Yet he was gracious, concerned - the perfect gentleman as he rolled up my

She added: "When you make a living throwing stones you expect that one day

Who knew that Russell Crowe would be such a doting father? We all know and love
him from his days of hitting people with hard objects, but it seems that those
days are behind him.

Look how cute he is as he hangs out with his son and wife at the Woolloomooloo
Wharf in Sydney, Australia. Oh, by the way, I'm moving there for obvious
reasons. Russell just got back from England where he was busy shooting Robin
Hood. I like him as Robin Hood.

Russell looked like the perfect family man with his wife Danielle Spencer and
his son, Tennyson. The best part is that his son thought it would be funny to
put his stuffed animal on daddy's head. It's a good thing daddy loves you a lot
cause I feel like if anyone else did that they would no longer be on this planet
with us.

They honestly look like the happiest family ever. I wonder if the Crowe family
ever hangs out with Cruise family? You know that Tennyson and Suri Cruise would
make the most adorable couple ever. Plus, both their dads can be kinda crazy
sometimes! It's perfect! I'm like a total matchmaker.

We were interested to note that Spencer has worn the Cavalli before, at the 2007

Interestingly, the petite Ms Spencer seems to have filled out the gown better

THE owner of a Windlesham pub has slammed rumours that Hollywood star Russell
Crowe was barred after offering to pay for drinks after hours.

Laurence Conveney, owner of The Brickmaker's, said that contrary to national
newspaper reports absolutely nothing untoward had happened.

He said: "It is all an absolute load of rubbish. If he had at any stage done
anything, it was not in my pub."

Newspapers published a story earlier this week which said Crowe had offered to
pay for drinks after hours at the pub in Chertsey Road, Windlesham, but that his
offer had been refused.

It was reported that he had been barred from returning and that a resident had
commented that "it's just not the way we do things here".

But Mr Coveney said he did not know how the story had come about and that Crowe
was welcome at his pub any time.

He added: "He has been in every pub in the Windlesham area and I have never
heard a bad word against him."

Crowe's manager Grant Vandenburg also said the story was untrue and that the
only truth in it was that the Oscar-winning actor had visited the pub.

Crowe, who won the Oscar for best actor in 2001 for his role in Gladiator, is
currently in the area doing filming for his new Robin Hood movie.

RUSSELL CROWE gave Coco Sumner a birthday treat she won't forget in a hurry.
The Oscar-winning actor serenaded the 19-year-old at her bash, at The Punchbowl
pub in Mayfair.

Cheered on by Guy Ritchie, Jason Statham and Coco's mum Trudie Styler , Russell
sang her Happy Birthday as she opened gifts. Our spy said: "Russell picked up a
guitar and serenaded Coco as a birthday present to her. Later, the group partied
to traditional songs being played by an Irish band."

But one party-goer let Coco down with her embarrassing behaviour – her mum.
"Trudie plonked herself on Jason's knee and looked like she was getting flirty.
Coco looked mortified," said our source.

But by the sounds of it, Jason wasn't.

"As they were leaving, Jason planted a huge smacker on Trudie's cheek."

The teenager, whose dad, Sting, stayed away from the party, donned an oversized
sheepskin jacket for the festivities, and came out holding what looked like
another bundle of clothes and a large present.

Mum Trudie , who is friends with Punchbowl owner Guy Ritchie, arranged the bash
for the singer, who left in a taxi with pals in the early hours of Sunday
morning.

Earlier this year, Coco fractured her skull when she fell off a chair in a

Film star Russell Crowe has denied a report he banned from an English pub
following an argument about closing time, locals say.

The Sunday Express newspaper had reported Crowe got into a spirited argument
over licensing laws that ended with the Oscar winner being banned from The
Brickmakers pub in Windlesham, Surrey.

The newspaper quoted a duty manager at the pub and an unnamed local, who said
Crowe had offered money to keep drinking after closing time and had smashed a
plate when he didn't get his way.

But Crowe's spokesman, Grant Vandenberg, told the TODAY show the story was a
complete fabrication and that Crowe had never even had a beer at the pub.

"The only truth in the whole thing is he has been to the hotel," Mr Vandenberg
told TODAY.

"He's been there four or five times with his kids, there's a playground in the
back of the hotel.

"He's never had a beer in the pub, he's never had a drink in the hotel — he's
been in there with his children."

An employee at The Brickmakers told ninemsn that staff members were not allowed
to speak about the story.

When asked directly if Crowe had been banned from the pub, he declined to
answer.

It is not known if the pub will make a statement about the alleged ban.

Crowe has recently been praised for his good deeds while shooting a new Robin
Hood movie near the genteel villages southwest of London.

News of Crowe's kindness had spread through the area earlier after it emerged he
had donated cash to a nearby charity shop.

Cancer Research UK shop branch manager Julia Deane said the actor was not happy
details of his STG1,000 ($A1,998) donation had come to light but Crowe's
publicity agents approved the gesture being made public.

"I know he wasn't best pleased and we're sorry because he was so kind to us, but
perhaps he should take it up with them. It seems they were keen to let the world
know."

Earlier, Crowe had given one of the film crew money to buy a new car after hers
burst into flames while she was driving to the set.

Subject: Lionsgate's new gamble: Russell Crowe teams up with Paul Haggis
dea_30oddfoo...

Unless you're making "Transformers 3" or "Iron Man 2," every movie in Hollywood
is a gamble in one way or another. But some gambles are more intriguing than
others, like the one Lionsgate just announced teaming Russell Crowe and Paul
Haggis. The two Oscar winners have joined forces on "The Next Three Days," a
Haggis-directed adaptation of the 2008 French film "Pour Elle" that begins
production in Pittsburgh in late September.

After all, both actor and filmmaker are considerable talents, but talents with
erratic track records. Crowe almost always delivers a strong performance--as he
did in such recent films as "American Gangster" and "3:10 to Yuma" (the latter
released by Lionsgate). But his last two films, "Body of Lies" and "State of
Play," were box-office duds. Haggis is one of Hollywood's go-to screenwriters,
having written Sony's latest Bond film, "Quantum of Solace." But since his best
picture Oscar win with "Crash" (also a Lionsgate film), he's struggled as a
filmmaker, directing the admirable-but-little-seen "In the Valley of Elah" and
creating "The Black Donnellys," a short-lived TV flop.

So it seemed intriguing to me to read that Lionsgate, which has largely been
focusing lately on genre thrillers and horror movies (along with its Tyler Perry
films), was willing to greenlight a movie that looked exactly like the kind of
picture that Hollywood studios shun these days: a serious character-driven
drama. After all, it was Haggis himself who called the picture an exploration of
the deeper themes of faith and belief, describing the deeper theme thusly:
"Would you save the woman you loved if you knew that by doing so, you would turn
into a man that a woman could no longer love?" (Sounds like something Graham
Greene might write.)

It sounds undeniably dramatically provocative. But is it commercial? Ask any
screenwriter: At most of today's studios, if you come in and pitch a film about
faith and belief, the production exec is most likely to respond by saying,
"Could the faith and belief part come after we got to see Megan Fox and Robert
Pattinson fight off a giant winged alien invader for about an hour?" So I called
up Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Joe Drake, who tied to put the
latest studio deal in perspective.

I guess it should come as no surprise that he sees the film as more than just a
character-driven drama. "The movie really has a lot more going on than what you
read in Paul's description," Drake told me. "This is a great idea with a sticky
concept. It's a premise that really grabs you--how far will a guy go to get his
wife and family back again? We can't compete with studios by making $200-million
special-effects dramas, so what we're looking for are stories that are dramatic
and original, but also suspenseful. I like to think of this film as a thriller
with some great action in the third act, not just as a character drama."

But what about Russell Crowe? Is he still considered a movie star, at least by
Lionsgate? Keep reading:

The Lionsgate chief had nothing but kudos for Crowe. "First off, he's one of the
finest actors in the business," said Drake. "And I don't think anyone could
handle the role better than Russell. He's still a major league star, certainly
in this kind of movie."

Drake wouldn't divulge how much Crowe and Haggis are getting paid, though
sources close to the project say that neither man is getting his customary
up-front salary. It is likely that Lionsgate, like most studios today, did a
deal where the talent can participate in the film's profits after the studio has
recouped its production and marketing expenses.

"The most I can say is that this isn't a big-budget movie, but it's not a tiny
one either," said Drake. "It's appropriately budgeted for our time. The actors
will do fine. If the movie is successful, everyone will do well in the end. We
just look at this film as a great opportunity to work with some world-class
talent."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Next Three Days" actually has Crowe
taking a break from Universal and his director friend Scott. The actor will team
up with Paul Haggis ("Crash") and Lionsgate for this remake of the 2008 French
thriller "Pour Elle."

The story follow a married couple who find their happy lives turned upside down
when the wife is imprisoned for murder. Not only does her husband believe her
claims of innocence, he concocts a plan to break her out of prison. Forget
chocolates and red roses... that's love! It's also the perfect role for a tough
guy like Crowe, who shines when he gets to play the anguished action hero.

Filming is scheduled to begin in September, meaning Crowe will be fresh off of
"Robin Hood" and in full fighting form.

Russell Crowe is to star in a Hollywood remake of the French thriller "Pour
Elle," entertainment industry Daily Variety reported on its website.

Crowe, 45, the Oscar-winning star of "Gladiator" and "A Beautiful Mind," will
play a teacher trying to free his wife from prison after she is wrongly
convicted of murder.

The film -- to be released as "The Next Three Days" -- will be shot by Paul
Haggis, a best director Oscar-winner in 2006 for "Crash."

Haggis, 56, told Variety that Crowe had been chosen for the part for his
"everyman" qualities.

"We've seen him as the gladiator, but he has embodied the Everyman in so many
pictures," Haggis said, describing the movie as an exploration of faith and
belief.

"The deeper theme here is, would you save the woman you loved if you knew that
by doing so, you would turn into a man that woman could no longer love?"

Crowe, who was most recently seen in political thriller "State of Play," is
currently working on the Ridley Scott-directed "Robin Hood."

Russell Crowe will star in "The Next Three Days," the adaptation of the 2008
French film "Pour Elle" that reunites Lionsgate with its "Crash" director Paul
Haggis.

Crowe will play a teacher whose wife is arrested and convicted of a murder she
says she did not commit. He comes up with a desperate plan to free her.

Haggis, who wrote the script, will begin production in late September in
Pittsburgh.

Haggis told Daily Variety that the drama needed an actor who can thrive as an
Everyman who rises when faced with an extraordinary circumstance, and Crowe was
his top choice.
More than one option

"We've seen him as the gladiator, but he has embodied the Everyman in so many
pictures," Haggis said.

Haggis said the film explores deeper themes of faith and belief.

Said Haggis: "The deeper theme here is, would you save the woman you loved if
you knew that by doing so, you would turn into a man that woman could no longer
love?"

Haggis is producing with Michael Nozik through their Highway 61 Films, along
with Marc Missonnier and Olivier Delbosc of Fidelite Films.

Crowe is shooting "Robin Hood," the Ridley Scott-directed drama for Universal
and Imagine.

Hollywood star Russell Crowe has delighted staff at an English charity shop by
popping in to leave a generous cash donation.

Crowe took a break from filming his new Robin Hood movie to visit a nearby
Cancer Research shop in Sunningdale, Berkshire, west of London, the Daily Star
reported on Tuesday.

A volunteer told the newspaper: 'We couldn't believe it when Russell Crowe came
in and gave us the money.'

'We had been hoping to catch a glimpse of him.

'We were all a bit star-struck but it was lovely to meet him and he stopped and
had a bit of a chat with us.'

While the amount donated was undisclosed, it was the second time a good deed by
the Oscar winner has come to light while filming the Ridley Scott-directed film
recently.

Last week, Crowe gave the movie's sound recordist, Denise Yarde, STG5,000
($A10,200) to buy a new car after her old one burst into flames while she was
driving from her London home to the set.
