THE owner of a Windlesham pub has slammed rumours that Hollywood star Russell
Crowe was barred after offering to pay for drinks after hours.
Laurence Conveney, owner of The Brickmaker's, said that contrary to national
newspaper reports absolutely nothing untoward had happened.
He said: "It is all an absolute load of rubbish. If he had at any stage done
anything, it was not in my pub."
Newspapers published a story earlier this week which said Crowe had offered to
pay for drinks after hours at the pub in Chertsey Road, Windlesham, but that his
offer had been refused.
It was reported that he had been barred from returning and that a resident had
commented that "it's just not the way we do things here".
But Mr Coveney said he did not know how the story had come about and that Crowe
was welcome at his pub any time.
He added: "He has been in every pub in the Windlesham area and I have never
heard a bad word against him."
Crowe's manager Grant Vandenburg also said the story was untrue and that the
only truth in it was that the Oscar-winning actor had visited the pub.
Crowe, who won the Oscar for best actor in 2001 for his role in Gladiator, is
currently in the area doing filming for his new Robin Hood movie.
