Well 'Mike E' is now moderated (I've been kind). There shouldn't be anymore of
those links.

A polite notice: If there is anyone here who isn't a Gil/Buck fan and just wants
to 'spam' the group then leave now and save me the trouble of removing you.
Thank you.

I have spoken! LOL :)

I've been asked what's going on in regard to Gil's new Official Website. Sitting comfortably? Here goes......

I was approached with the idea to have merchandise as part of The Official Gil Gerard Fansite but it would've included to many changes, changes that I wasn't happy with. So I suggested that they should do their own separate website for merchandise and all professional stuff etc etc and that whatever is designed I'd link to it. Hence the fact that there is now a new Official Gil Gerard Website coming soon, which has the URL of www.gilgerard.com

I do know for a fact that I want The Official Gil Gerard Fansite to stay the same; it's just a non-profit fansite run by a stubborn fan (that'll be me LOL) with contributions from other fans and is for information purposes........and it's for fun.......with sarcasm thrown in for good measure. The only changes was the fansite's name (I think gilgerard{dot}net would've been predictable. The Official Gil Gerard Fansite is straight to the point I suppose) and it's URL.

TOGGF (as I call it when I'm too lazy to write it out in full) can now be reached by using www.gilgerard.net or the good old http://gilgerard.tripod.com which ever URL takes your fancy. :)

So Gil now has two Official sites.......the greedy @&*^%$!

BTW, www.gilgerard.com will now get you to Gil's new merchandise site (apparently his Official Website), which is coming soon. I did ask them when to say something about it but alas I got no reply.

www.gilgerard.net or the good old http://gilgerard.tripod.com will get you to The Official Gil Gerard Fansite. (This explains why I changed the name of the fansite a few months ago).

Hello, this is my report of last night's Stu Phillips Concert:

I got to the theater a little over an hour before show time. There were several people chit chatting outside, some in costume. Before the show, they had a Stageside Chat with Stu and Bear McCreary. That's when I had my OMG moment! I realized that Stu and Bear had been standing not 2 feet away from me outside the theater before the show, and I didn't recognize them!

Stu told an interesting story of how he met Glen Larson. He said that Glen worked for him at Capital Records in the 50's when he was scoring shows like "The Donna Reed Show". Glen left, and in 1973, he called up Stu to ask him to write the score for his TV show "The 6 million dollar man". That started his relationship with Glen, and Stu ended up scoring most of Glen's shows for the next 14 years.

Here are my thoughts regarding the different musical pieces that were played:

1) End Credits form Star Trek: First Contact - Conducted by the Orchestra's regular conductor - Steve Allen Fox. The music was standard Star Trek. It was a good piece to start off the concert.

2) End Title's from Astro Boy - Conducted by Jason Livesay who happens to do regular work with the Golden State Pops. He worked on the orchestration and arrangement of this piece for the movie. It was standard End Title music.

3) Variations for Piano and Orchestra - This piece was written by Stu, but conducted by the GSPO's regular conductor. The piece had been recorded before, but never performed. You can listen to it on Stu Phillips website www.stuwho.com I thought the piece was confusing at first, but it sucked me in, and by the end, I was loving it. This performance earned the 1st standing ovation of the night.

4) Intermission - The had a costume contest during intermission. A guy dressed as Elephant Boy won 1st place, a guy dressed as Willy Wonka won 2nd, and a girl dressed as Catwoman won 3rd place.

5) Prologue/Exploration and Main Theme - Stu conducted. This is basically the opening credits to Battlestar Galactica.

6) Heaven/The Scriptures and the Wedding - Stu conducted. This is another piece from the original Battlestar Galactica. This was when Apollo first met the people dressing in white, that would show them the way to Earth. Stu lost his baton in the middle of conducting, but that didn't stop him. He continued by waving his hands, then picked up the baton afterwords.

7) Buck Rogers Suite #1 - Stu conducted. This piece contained all of the themes from Buck. It started with the Awakening, then when into the Main Title theme, then into the Draconian theme, then into the Princess Ardala them, it also included the Buck/Wilma love theme, and the Twiki theme. This was a World Premier for Buck music.

8) The Name of the Game is Kill - Stu conducted. This was from a horror film that Stu did in the early 70's. It was actually a very very good piece. While it didn't get a standing ovation, the applause was much more enthusiastic then usual.

9) Colonial Anthem Variations - Bear McCreary conducted. Bear is probably one of, if not "the" hottest composer out there today. And, he's only 30. This piece of music was written for the new Battlestar Galactica show. It included elements from pieces that Stu conducted earlier in the evening, ie, the pieces of music from #5 and $6 above. It was very well done, and earned the 2nd standing ovation of the evening. Bear brought some of his own musicians to augment the orchestra. This was also a World Premier for this piece of music.

10) Viper/Cylon Battle/End Credits - Stu conducted. This was from the last scene of the last episode of Battlestar Galactica. This piece earned the 3rd standing ovation of the evening.

11) X-Files Theme - Steve Fox conducted - This was not on the program. It was a last minute addition to the concert. This piece earned the last standing ovation of the evening.

It was interesting watching and listening to the different styles of conducting between the Stu and Bear. Stu made music with a traditional orchestra, and Bear brings in strange instruments, that aren't normally used in an orchestra. Stu was much more relaxed. Stu and Orchestra seemed to be saying, "Hey we're playing some music, we're having a good time". Bears was the opposite. He and the Orchestra seemed to be saying, "This is a serious piece of music, so take it seriously." They were definitely different styles.

All in all, I had a really good time. Seeing Stu perform, and listening to so many pieces of music that had never been performed live in front of an audience before was amazing. I definitely plan on attending more performances by this orchestra.

The concert was performed by the Golden State Pops Orchestra. They are the only Year Round Orchestra in the Los Angeles Area. Here is a link there website:

The concert was performed at the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro, CA. It was built in 1931, and is on the National Registry of Historical Places. It still needs a lot of fixing up, but the ornate woodwork was very beutiful. GSPO isn't the only group that uses this place. They also show movies and other stuff. Here's a link to there website:

Stu Phillips, well, everyone knows who Stu is. Here's a link to his website:

Well, gotta go. Talk to everyone later, luckybuck
