THIS DIVIDED STATE. Have you all heard about this? It's a documentary about
Michael
Moore's controversial visit to the "red" state of Utah 2 weeks before the 2004
election.
Mormons went kinda crazy and tried to prevent him from speaking. The film itself
is pretty
riveting and, at times, scary.

Check it out here: www.thisdividedstate.com

That was a great show/appearance. Almost the entire thing revolved around
the movie, one way or another. Ralph Nader was also a guest on that show.
I was expecting fireworks, but there were none.

My Tivo told me Mike was a guest on the show "The Best Damn Sports Show
Period" Friday night, which airs on the Fox Sports networks. For some
reason, it didn't record it. I scolded my Tivo, and am having it record the
repeats. As of now, it doesn't list who the guests are for those repeats,
so I'm kinda doing it blindly here. Also the show runs at different times
nationwide...

I keep missing Moore's TV appearances. I just joined this list, so I didn't
see the last message about O'Reily and Nightline. (Luckily I was able to
download an MPEG of O'Reily.)

My question - where's the best place to find out about Mike's upcoming TV
appearances?

I have Tivo, and have it search for Moore, but it doesn't catch everything.
I check Mike's website, but it is often not updated (especially the "Mike's
Appearances" section). I subscribe to Mike's email list, but the emails are
few, and he doesn't seem to notify us about all his upcoming appearances
that way.

It's very frustrating.

typically Moore doesnt release soundtracks for any of his films,
going way back to Roger and Me. I think he does this becase if he
did release a soundtrack it would be looked upon as him trying to
make a profit or capitalizing on the successof his film for
himself. I suggest that if you want your own soundtrack, find a
list of the songs and download em. Or better yet go out and buy
cd's from those artists who were cool enoughto let Mike use their
music in the movie.

Alan,

As another leftist Canadian, I share your frustration in being so
affected by the U.S. but having no direct voice in presidential
elections. I am however grateful for the courageous work of Michael
Moore. (I'm surprised he hasn't had some sort of 'accident' or
mysteriously 'committed suicide' by now.)

Canadians and other 'foreigners' can at least support Moore and his
eye-opening work by seeing the movie. I've seen it three times now,
and it's riveting every time. We can also pray that U.S. voters
will have the presence of mind to dump Dubya when they get the
chance.

These figures were taken from boxofficemojo.com... I had been
wodering about this, so I looked into it.

F9/11: Opening Weekend: $23,920,637
(868 theaters, $27,558 average)

The Passion of the Christ: Opening Weekend: $83,848,082
(3,043 theaters, $27,554 average)

What's so impressive is not the overall box office number, but the
fact that in about 28% of the theatres, F911 took in a slightly
better average in ticket sales. If you used the average for F911 and
multiplied it by 3.5 (to get 3,043 theaters), it would be within
$100,000 of Passion. Take that, Mel Gibson!

$60 million and counting. Not bad per theatre either.
http://movies.yahoo.com/boxoffice/latest/rank.html

Here in liberal Takoma Park, Maryland we had our July 4th parade
today on the 5th.

In the parade were Billioniares for Bush. It was hilarious. There was
also a super giant size homemade SUV that must have been 10 feet tall.
http://billionairesforbush.com/index.php

Gawd there was a guy walking the sidewalks asking people to sign up
to show support for B/C 2004. I told him, "over my dead body." In
2000 Gore beat Bush by 8 to 1 in this town and Nader came in 2nd.

I would suggest seeing it in the theater, preferably soon while it's
still playing to packed houses. You'll get the same feeling that you
get when you're at a massive protest, being in a room full of like
minded people who go in angry at Bush and come out just livid and
ready to do something about it.

While there's no chance that F9/11 will beat Spiderman at the box
office this week, we should still shoot for the number 2 spot.

Can you share with us any info on who is working on get out younger
voters (18-24 year olds)? Are there any specific organizations? Who
knows? How do we find out? I think if the youth get motivated it
could make a difference in the outcome. FIRST they need to register

I would donate to such a cause. Perhaps Canadians would too! And the

Good points. The youngs liberals in this country
definitely have a job to do up until the upcoming
election. I discuss politics with many of my friends,
who unforunately are brainwashed by the Fox News

It is sad to think how unaware the young people in

Agreed--me, I'd go see the movie AND get the DVD for
further reference. However, Mike's starting to post
some information on his website but mainly in defense
of the claims of people getting in the press to
"debunk" his film.

I waited until the local library had a copy of "Stupid
White Men" and discovered that I really needed a copy
of my own because it was so jam-packed with info and
references that I wanted to have handier than having
to constantly go to the library to fetch it.

Having gone through that experience with his book, I
made a point of bringing a small notebook with me and
while I viewed the film I took a lot of notes (some of
which I find hard to read, ha). Went to the website
and filled in a few blanks, but there are other blanks
remaining. I'm hoping he'll post more as time goes
on.

Friends,

The burning question in the minds of Canadians who've seen this film
is -- How much impact will it have in the upcoming elections?

Naturally, myself and like-minded people hope that it will. Not too
many people north of the border feel like they belong to that elite
group that stands to benefit rom the escapes of the Bush
adminstration. For us, it's hard to beleive that there's any chance
at all that the American people could possibly choose "four more
years" after what has transpired. However, we also understand that
there are fear dynamics at work (the film reveals the bogeyman as a
fictional threat) and powerful interests at work (namely the near-
religious obsession with economic growth).

From our side of the line, I want to know -- What can Canadians do
to help end the Bush regime? What can be done to ensure that the
disenfranchised, (who are not a part of Bush's elite base), are on
the voter's list? I've though that I might drive across the border
and help shuttle people without adequate transportation get to the
polling station on election day. Would that help?

I think you'd definitely want to go see it in the theaters, to boost
its numbers and so forth. I just saw it here outside the Dallas
metro. The Tuesday matinee was well attended and got a great
response. I will also want to see the video when it comes out,
because it is too much info to readily digest on one pass.

The case he makes is perfectly devistating. The two unfortunate
explanations (i.e. for Bush's election) is that America is already
either completely brain dead or else is living under a police state
(some of each, probably, and certainly the latter).

The only part I didn't like is he seemed to be suggesting the demos
are a viable alternative. Also, his conclusion relied heavily on one
who struck me as highly emotional and irrational. He laid those
Bushes bare, though, for the consummate underhanded money grubbers
they are. I mean, it was like Agent Orange on steroids!!!!! ;P

Hey y'all:

I've been a fan of M. Moore for some time; to me, he's more brave
than our so-called professional media, who seem to be too busy
trading favors and lap-dog treatment of Pres. Bush for access (now,
where did I leave that First Amendment? lol)

What I'm wondering is, will it be worth it to see F911 in the
theatres now, or should I wait for DVD? I have a real strong feeling
that I agree with 100% of what he's saying in the film (particularly
if the reaction from F*ckhead News Channel and Shill O'Reilly are any
indication. They've been spinning their wheels trying to tamp down
this movie; it MUST hit too close to the truth, and it must kill the
right-wingers to see it rake in $22 mil in its first weekend. (btw,
how does that compare to Passion of the Christ? If it's within $2 or
$3 million it must drive the Hannity-heads out there just nuts).

Compliments on the timely group.

I think that this movie could get out the 18-24 year old vote like
nothing else ever has. They need to see this film! I e-mailed MM and
MoveOn.org about an idea I had.

There should be a fund set up that provides either free or discounted
tickets to people who are 18-24 years old (another friend suggested
any military too). Perhaps the DVD could be cheaper for them as well.
I would donate to such a fund in a heartbeat.

PS. I talked to a friend today who was at the airport in Phoenix. He
told me that he had read about this same idea in a magazine. Any one
else catch this?

We live in the American Sunni Triangle; South Carolina. After
driving an hour and a half through an unexpected thunderstorm, we
arrived just in time to grab some decent seats. All shows at this
theatre sold out. Although I did not really learn anything new, to
have so many facts presented in such a concise and entertaining
manner was impressive indeed.

Unfortunately, We live in the American Sunni Triangle; South
Carolina. Soon, two Dixie Flag-Patch wearing, David Allen Coe/Darrel
Worley fans decided to take the seats next to us. They're
heckling,
childish references to Monica Lewis, and excitement of the bodies of
women, children, found in sexually positions were of great
excitement to these young me. They screeched a "F-U" Cheney
shout on
their way out. They did this with a pace that was Olympic inspiring.
If you are thinking about not noting, think of theshese people who
will be at the pools.

Peace,
KV
