Can you say, trailed off? Yes, sorry about that, What a crazy month this back to
school thing.
So, got about 1/4 of the room slightly organized. But I feel like I need to do a
clean sweep. But so much is going on, it's like how do find the time to clean
when you have been waiting just to sew. So, sewing is becoming part of the
cleaning process. I think the main goal is to get every project up on a hanger
or in a box. Then to clean the closet out completely.
What are you doing this weekend to work on that stash?

I've been pretty good, I've mostly bought thread & other notions & just a
tiny bit of fabric for a specific project. I'm working on using up what I have,
& been successful with that this summer.

Hmmmm, problem is the fabric I have is not suitable for texture wize and steam

But, I do work on finishing the Elizabethan of doon.

Okay, you get brownie points for helping your friend out and since most of your
regency is probably stash stuff...you are recycling twice kinda...
that's okay, I fell off the wagon yesterday, had to get some brown for s steam
punky thing...don't have brown in t he stash.

Besides - that's what dye is for. Less then $5.00 for dye is within the minimal

I am just trying to clean up the sewing room, reorganize it a bit, and get my
fabrics and trims organized better. Not sure what I want to sew next... maybe
some modern clothes from fabric I've had waiting years for them.

I am soooo exhausted by the kids at school, but now it's over. So, I have to
attack the stash...Cos Coll time and it's all about the Georgian Era....so I
better get cracking on that! I have material for a day and evening dress....but
do I have the time?????
what are you attacking in your stash?
A friend & I kicked off our spring stash taming with a Regency sewing
blitz. I got something cut out from stash fabric, organized stash fabric,
washed stash fabric, & got new ideas about what to do with my stash fabric.
Sometimes a new pair of eyes comes up with new possibilities for old fabric.
A.
I'm making a Regency dress with a couple of Britex remnants from a few
years ago. It's slow going. Because of fitting issues, I'm hand
basting everything before sewing, and using the serger (shhhh, don't
tell) because the fabric wants to ravel all over the place. Are Regency
sleeves supposed to be so tight? Or are my 21st century arms just too
big?
Last week I cut up a sari from a Berkeley shop to make elf sleeves and a
cape for an existing dress. The sari was one of those Japanese chiffons
so soft and sheer that you're not sure which layer is which when they
skid apart on the sewing machine. It came out pretty, though. Very
flowing...
This does bring up a related problem. As the stash pile reduces, the
costume closet increases. Things are already pretty tight in there.
Are we going to have to learn how to sell on Ebay before we're done with
the stash?

oh, dear, sounds familiar. I am proud that I actually got seams sewn and the
lining cut out. I plan on sewing a mock up for fit tomorrow. a wee bit at a
time.

What does spring mean to the stash keeper? Why, making room for the winter
fabric sales stashes? Getting some of that stash out and cut for projects?
Actually sewing the projects? Organizing? Do tell us what you have been up to.
This Sat and Sunday I was so good. I got out the bodice pattern pieces for the
Steam Punk costume, and actually cut the lining! Hope to have that all sewn up
this week and tried on. The skirt got finished as far as hemming and placket.
So, now to dig out the Pith helmut...
What did you do this weekend to add or subtract to the stash?

I was a good little stash tamer this week, and worked so hard I got a
nasty migraine, ended up not being able to drive down to the bay area
and do the Tudor feast. I was managing about 80-85% of the gown from
stash. But after many days of pushing it, my body said no more. Boy
was I just was really stressed and upset Saturday, but I am trying to
look at the good side, I did get the sewing room cleaned up and did
put a small dint in the stash.
Did any of you do stash costumes for the Tudor feast, if you lived in
the Bay Area? If so, please put up some new pictures for us to drool
over. I hope to drag out my costume so far and maybe take pictures.
Well, I suppose I can wear it to BayCon...which i hope to be selling
at this year.
Decade or so ago, when I moved it was also a time to purge. If I had
to move now especially if less weight would mean less moving van
cost$, a lot of the fabric would go away.

When your abode has to change, how hard have you found it to pack up
that evil stash and move it? Do you find this inspiring because it
really lights a fire under you to do something? Or, did you just get
that stash really organized and this through a monkey wrench in it.

Yes, and unfortunately even the not so good fabric is hard to pass up.

I have recently passed along over 20 lbs of the various trims & laces I've
accumulated
over 20 years to friends & relatives who sew things for charity
bazaar/fundraising events
at their churches. I figured that was a good "pass along" for trims & lace that
was nice,
but I really had to admit to myself that I would never use.
(I also managed to dig up a few things for the Open House raffle, which got
another bag
of costuming "stuff" out of the house).

Well, I am actually looking forward to diving in the stash this
weekend. I have to finally get that fabric going for the Tudor Outer
Dress going and cut out this weekend. The kirtle is still taking up
quite a bit of time this week and looking at different colors and
textures would be nice.
Of course, when one is recovering from a sickness, staying in and
sewing is probably a good idea. Hmmm, do I have time to do a french
hood for the corgi girl dog? She is such a party girl.
this sounds a lot like what I have been doing this last year. Planning to make
the plunge on items with huge amounts of fabric. The challenge now is to find
some space in the closet for the new items. I then started looking at the
costumes that hadn't been made yet and large amounts of fabric hanging on
hangers. The bulk make enough room for two costumes if they we made up. So,
yeah, I can really sympathize with this. But I really need to finish up the
Tudor Kirtle this weekend, that will make some more counter space.
I did pretty good last weekend just cleaning the sewing room up in general. I
have had to clean out an do inventory on my business stuff this week, I find
that kinda works as a good clean sweep. So, yeah, there is some incentive to get
the costumes finished, you know wearing them to an event. Oh, and I may lose
space in my closet to renovation next year...it's only two feet, but that's two
to three costumes!
