Similar emails are going out to filmmakers around the country. Movie Maker Magazine asks Filmmakers to cast their own votes for the best city to make movies.
It's Winter time at MovieMaker Magazine, which means only one thing: Time to count down the best places to be an independent moviemaker!
Each year, MovieMaker Magazine's Winter edition (which is released at Sundance) features our annual ranking of the best places to "live, work and make movies." And this year is no exception—except we're changing up the theme a little this year. In response to the current economic climate and (let's face it) the fact that moviemaking isn't always cheap, this year's survey will focus on the top cities to survive as a moviemaker. It will take into account all the usual criteria—local film scene, quality of life, benefits of shooting in an area, etc.—but pay even closer attention to the financial implications of living in a particular area. Meaning that cost of living, unemployment rates, average salaries, job growth and financial incentives for making a movie will all play an extremely important role.
But in an effort to make the issue a true “Locations Edition,” in addition to the Top 10 Movie Cities, we’ll be discussing what’s happening in all 50 U.S. states.
Already, our researchers are hard at work interviewing film commissioners, location professionals and independent moviemakers from coast to coast. As such, we’re hoping that your office would be able to provide us with some basic statistics on the 2009 moviemaking scene in and your 2010 forecast. Specifically: Projects that have shot in the area, number of production days, financial benefit to the state from film production, recent news regarding tax incentives, etc. What areas continue to be the state’s production hotspots? Which areas are showing a lot of recent growth? Essentially, any information that you think our writers should know about the state of moviemaking—independent in particular—in your state.
As this is still part of our information-gathering process, the information does not need to be pretty—additional interviews will be conducted as we continue to narrow down our list.
Deadline for information is Friday, December 5th. Info can be sent directly to my attention via email for easy dissemination among our writers. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Additionally, we are asking independent moviemakers around the country to cast their own votes for the best cities to make movies. You can spread the word and the URL: http://www.moviemaker.com/moviecities/
Sincerely, Jennifer

I'm not sure if this is the sort of thing you can bring to the CUTS Austin group- but I am looking to replace myself on a small editing gig in Austin because it's been too hard to organize it from Los Angeles.
It's a five minute sample piece for a possible reality show. I've cut 23 hours of footage down to about an hour of selects. The producer will look at that hour and write/record the narration. The the editor would need to work with him to cut together a polished piece. I'll send all the final cut pro project files, tapes and a drive with the captured footage to the editor.
I think the pay will probably be only about 10/hour or so. The Producer is in and out of town a lot so it will probably be a project that gets done in small spurts.
Is it possible to post this to the group or bring it up at a meeting? I'm looking to collect a few resumes and vet them and then pass them along to the Producer as recommendations. What do you think?
Also- how's the group going? I haven't seen in Austin for a few months, but I already miss the queso.
Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
This month we will be checking out the new features in FCP 7 plus the
new JVC GY-HM100u. The HM100 is the first camera to shoot in .mov mode
so you can go straight from the card to the timeline. It's an amazing
little camera.
Please note, for this month only (unless we really like it there) we
will be meeting at the Mangia Pizza at 8012 Mesa Drive.
I hope to see you there,
Cynthia

There seem to be a lot of posts for editors on Media Match. You have to pay to join to see them. You can sign up for a month or a year at a time. Jobs are east coast/west coast mainly, but maybe there's something there for you. As a member you get emailed with a job fits your criteria.
I'm needing subtitles for an 8 minute short. But here's the rub: the titles
need to be done as if a very bad typist is typing them as the actors say the
lines.
Pay is $300 flat.
Please email me directly (if you reply, EVERYONE will get to read your
response), and I'll be happy to supply all the details.
Thank you,

Kai, I recently got a Matrox box and a Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP 24" monitor.(
Reviews I found showed it to be the same display that is in the Apple Cinema 24"
but $200 cheaper) This is an under $2000 solution. Or you could get a Sony LMD
series like I use at work for about $5000

Hey group,
I have a lightly used Blackmagic Design Multibridge Extreme for sale. It needs a
good home.
I have listed this at $800 on other boards, but a special Austin-only, cash
price of $700 is available.
Have original box with all components (including rack-mounting brackets)
Information from the User manual:

analog YUV, as well as NTSC/PAL video in and out.
Multibridge Extreme also features 8 channels of AES audio with sample rate
converters on all inputs. For analog audio Multibridge Extreme supports stereo
XLR audio in and out, combined with two channel RCA audio outputs for low cost
HiFi monitoring.
Multibridge Extreme includes built-in dual link DVI-D and HDMI monitoring. With
dual link DVI-D Multibridge Extreme can support 30 inch LCD monitors (such as
the Apple 30 inch Cinema Display) - and this higher resolution display allows
for full resolution 2K digital film editing.
The DVI output also automatically detects HDMI devices when connected via the
included adaptor, ideal for connecting to the latest big screen televisions and
video projectors.
Multibridge Extreme works natively in 4:2:2, RGB 4:4:4 or 2K digital film
resolutions. Also included is true 14 bit analog conversion for high quality
