Hebrews 8

The old covenant, being imperfect, was replaced by the new covenant based on grace.

INSIGHT
All the major features of the old covenant, which existed on a literal, physical level, are found in the new covenant on a spiritual, heavenly level. The old covenant had a physical sanctuary, a human high priest, and used real animals for sacrifices. This covenant was inadequate in that it could only deal with sins temporarily; it could not remove sins permanently (v. 7). In the new covenant there is a spiritual sanctuary, a heavenly High Priest, and a celestial Lamb whose death provides permanent forgiveness of sin for an infinite number of people. It is a better covenant, which was established on better promises (v. 6).

PRAYER
Praise the Lord that Jesus sacrifice was sufficient for the sins of all humankind:
Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting,You are God (Psalm 90:1-2).

Pause for praise and thanksgiving.

Pray this confession to the Lord as you seek to keep your life free from sin:
Israel, return to the Lord your God,
For you have stumbled because of your iniquity;
Take words with you,
And return to the Lord.
Say to Him,
"Take away all iniquity;
Receive us graciously,
For we will offer the sacrifices of our lips"(Hosea 14:1-2).

Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind, and pray this affirmation to the Lord:
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."
(Revelation 3:20)

As you make your requests known to the Lord, include:
greater love for others,
missionaries in the Middle East,
your activities for the day.

Finally, offer this prayer to the Lord:
May the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(1 Thessalonians 5:23)

Luke 21:25-36 (Click to view Bible text below.)

Mary's experience with God transforms her worldview. Since God could choose a "lowly" person like a peasant girl from Nazareth (now unwed and pregnant) to bear God's son, everything looked different. God was no longer apparently captive to the powerful and professionally religious. The fortunate in the world were no longer the fat and powerful. Because of what God did for Mary, she understood that the least in the world were especially favored. What a creation-changing gift Mary gives!

God of the lowly, you nurture the poor and hungry. Help us be your
hands and heart to the lowly of our world this season and, in them,
let us meet Christ. Amen.

John Martin Mann
Seminary Pastor, Luther Seminary

Luke 21:25-36 (NRSV)

25  [Jesus said,] "There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves.

26  "People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

27  "Then they will see 'the Son of Man coming in a cloud' with power and great glory.

28  "Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."

29  Then he told them a parable: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees;

30  "as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near.

31  "So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

32  "Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place.

33  "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

34  "Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day does not catch you unexpectedly,

35  "like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth.

36  "Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."

Tozer Devotional

What I believe about God is the most important thing about me.

A. W. Tozer, a modern day prophet, was a key figure in The Christian and Missionary Alliance. His legacy reaches through time and has impacted countless millions. A prolific author and pastor, Tozer was known for his emphasis on the deeper life movement. His message, informed as it was by A.B. Simpson the founder of The Alliance, brought the missionary call to a massive audience. A series of his sermons are available as audio files.

His books have been published around the world and in many languages.
The Warfare of the Spirit
Chapter 17 - Ability and Responsibility

Much Given, Much Demanded
Thursday, November 26, 2009

"Ability involves responsibility," wrote the celebrated Dr. Maclaren.

This statement is in complete harmony with the teaching of the Scriptures, yet in our relation to God and our fellow men we are too likely to forget it.

Human beings, as far as they are understanding and just, acknowledge ability as the proper measure of responsibility. The blind man is not held responsible to see nor the deaf man to hear. Even the most oppressive government imposes upon its citizens only such taxes, as it judges him able to pay. To demand more of any man is finally to destroy such ability as he may possess. Any government that would demand more of its citizens than they were able to pay would soon dry up all tribute at its roots and bring upon itself sure destruction.

In an odd but highly significant passage in the Holy Scriptures, we are told that God judges men according to their light.

In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead (Acts 17:3031).

Verse
From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. Luke 12:48b

Thought
Some of us were exposed to the Good News of Christ for most of our lives yet we did not immediately respond. Many of us have stumbled along the way. But what about those who have never heard and have no Bible in their language?

Prayer
To me You have given much, O Lord. Great is my responsibility before You.

Inspirational Readings by A.B. Simpson
Days of Heaven on Earth

Preeminent above all other ministries for the evangelization of the heathen world is the Great Commission. The command, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Luke 16:15), requires a personal ministry from man to man and for every man. The command to begin at Jerusalem passes on to us the obligation to reach God's chosen people. Go ye . . . and disciple all nations raises our commission to a nobler plane and makes us ambassadors for the King of kings and trustees of the gospel for every kindred and tribe and tongue. The command, Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8), lifts the outlook beyond any section of humanity, any circle of selfish patriotism and any form of religious selfishness. It makes the work of evangelization the one supreme ministry of the Church of Christ and the one paramount responsibility of every disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Have you come into close touch with the risen Christ or caught the spirit of His last momentous days on earth? if so, you cannot be inactive, indifferent, or even neutral in this mighty enterprise which is the emergency work of our times and which is the one great business for which God has called us.

VERSE:
   "No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute
every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants
of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the
LORD.
    -- Isaiah 54:17

THOUGHT:
   Because of the LORD God's grace and power, we will be victors.
This is the final message of Revelation. It is the song that is
sung throughout the Scriptures. This is the assurance that we have
from God himself. Our lives will not be lived in vain. Those who
berate, belittle, and batter God's people will be exposed and his
beloved children, his saints of light, will receive vindication and
salvation from the Father they love.

PRAYER:
   Dear God, I pray especially today for your servants who are
sharing the Gospel in difficult places. Some of these precious ones
are imprisoned. Some are facing torture. Others are facing
ostracism. Some face firing in their workplaces. Please give them
strength today. Please deliver them from the evil one's vile
intent. Protect them by your mighty hand and deliver them, like
Daniel, from the lion's mouth to your glory. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

Hebrews 4

As we labor to enter into Gods rest, we may call upon Christ for mercy and grace.

INSIGHT
The Word of God is energized by the Spirit of God. Whenever Scripture goes forth, it never returns without accomplishing the work it was intended to do. This is because the written Word of God is "living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword" (v. 12). As we minister to others, the Bible must be central to all that we say and do. We must always remember that it is the Word which is alive, not our own insights, clever arguments, or interesting stories.

PRAYER
Because God has provided the Bible as our source of truth, we give Him praise:
I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;
My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.
I have set the Lord always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will rest in hope. . . .
You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures
forevermore (Psalm 16:7-9, 11).

Pause for praise and thanksgiving.

Pray this confession to the Lord as you seek to keep your life free from sin:
Now therefore, be wise, O kings;
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
Serve the Lord with fear,
And rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,
And you perish in the way,
When His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him (Psalm 2:10-12).

Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind, and pray this affirmation to the Lord:
"I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you."
(Matthew 5:44)

As you make your requests known to the Lord, include:
wisdom in interpreting the Bible,
missionaries in India,
whatever else is on your heart.

Finally, offer this prayer to the Lord:
Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. . . . My beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
(1 Corinthians 15:57-58)

Psalm 26 (Click to view Bible text below.)

Saying thank you was probably one of the first things your parents ever taught you. A relative handed you a piece of candy or gave you a compliment and your parents were on top of you: "And what do you say?"

Most of us reached our pinnacle of thankfulness when we were four, which is why I will be your parent today.

When someone lets you squeeze into congested traffic, what do you say?

When you have to pay your taxes, what do you say?

When you realize that God created you, brought you into being and gives you every breath you take, what do you say?

When you walk, see, cry, laugh and love, what do you say?

When you look around the table at the loved ones gathered, what do you say?

When you realize that the God of all creation cares about you and died on a cross for you,
what do you say?

Dear God, thank you.  Amen.

Peter Geisendorfer-Lindgren
Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Maple Grove, Minn.
Master of Divinity, 1983

Psalm 26 (NRSV)

1  Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.

2  Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and mind.

3  For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in faithfulness to you.

4  I do not sit with the worthless, nor do I consort with hypocrites;

5  I hate the company of evildoers, and will not sit with the wicked.

6  I wash my hands in innocence, and go around your altar, O Lord,

7  singing aloud a song of thanksgiving, and telling all your wondrous deeds.

8  O Lord, I love the house in which you dwell, and the place where your glory abides.

9  Do not sweep me away with sinners, nor my life with the bloodthirsty,

10  those in whose hands are evil devices, and whose right hands are full of bribes.

11  But as for me, I walk in my integrity; redeem me, and be gracious to me.

12  My foot stands on level ground; in the great congregation I will bless the Lord.

VERSE:
   The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The
LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid?
    -- Psalm 27:1

THOUGHT:
   I love the coast of Maine. The craggy shorelines, the crashing
surf, and the lighthouses perched at strategic and well-fortified
points along the coastline. I cannot help but think of our heavenly
Father when I watch the gloom gather as an impending storm noisily
makes its way on shore. There in the storm -- with lightning
ripping through the sky, winds howling, and the surf crashing --
stands the light that guides the way, strong against the elements
and a beacon of direction and hope. Yes, the LORD, Yahweh the God
of Israel, the Almighty Creator of all things, is my light and my
salvation. My life, the eternal part of me, is entrusted to him. I
choose not to fear. I place my trust in him.

PRAYER:
   Father in heaven, I praise you for your faithfulness through the
ages. I thank you for your steadfast love that has blessed each
generation, giving hope in times of darkness, salvation in times of
wantonness, and strength in times of weakness. Now I ask that you
be with several people I love, who need your palpable presence as
they fight their battles. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

We have so many reasons to give thanks and you are one of those key
blessings!

Over the last year, Heartlight.org and our related free email and
online resources have been truly blessed by your support and prayer.
God has opened an avenue for us to reach out in Russian
(http://www.radiokd.ru) and we have seen one of our Portuguese email
offerings cross the 40,000 subscriber mark for one of our
devotionals. This is in addition to the ongoing work of
heartlight.org and searchgodsword.org which touches hundreds of
thousands of people in over 175 countries. In addition, we are
prayerfully exploring ways to launch mobile web websites in Africa to
go with our other English mobile websites.

In addition, Phil Ware's devotionals called What Jesus Did! are now
available in print at most Christian bookstores. "What Jesus Did! 365
Devotionals from the Gospel of John" has gone through a second
printing is now available again. "The Shadow of the Cross: 365
Devotionals from the Gospel of Mark" will soon be available at
Christian Bookstores as well. The devotionals from Matthew and Luke
are due out next year.

Thanks so much for your encouragement and support. We pray a joyous

Chapter 16 - Laboring the Obvious

Toddler Playpens
Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Something within the heart of the normal man revolts against motion without progress. Yet this is precisely what we are offered in the vast majority of evangelical churches. Doctrinally these churches are moving around a tight and narrow circle. Their teachers tell them that this circle encompasses all the land of Beulah and warn them of the danger of looking for anything more.

The teaching that consists entirely of reiteration cannot but be dull and wearisome; so the churches try to make up for the religious lassitude they cannot help but feel by introducing extrascriptural diversions and antiscriptural entertainments to provide the stultified saints with a bit of relish for their tedium. It never seems to occur to anyone that there is true joy farther on if they would only escape from the circle and strike out for the hills of God.

To bring news already known; to marshal texts to prove truth everyone believes and no one disputes; to illustrate by endless stories doctrines long familiar; to lay again and again the foundations of repentance from dead works and faith toward Godthis is to labor the obvious.

"Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection."

Verse
So come on, let's leave the preschool fingerpainting exercises on Christ and get on with the grand work of art. Grow up in Christ. The basic foundational truths are in place: . . . But there's so much more. Let's get on with it! (The Message). Hebrews 6:13

Thought
Do our churches resemble toddler playpens rather than groups of maturing saints who are forgetting what is behind and straining on toward what is ahead? If so, perhaps it is because they are victims of ministry which labors the obvious.

Prayer
Lord, challenge me to move on up to higher ground, to experience increasing spiritual maturity, to grow in You!

Inspirational Readings by A.B. Simpson
Days of Heaven on Earth

Nothing will more effectually arrest the working of the Spirit in the heart than the spirit of criticism. At the end of a meeting, a young minister came forward and told me of the great blessing he had received that afternoon and of the baptism of the Holy Spirit that had come into his heart and being, setting him free from the bondage of years. And then he added, "it all came through your answer to that question, 'Will a criticizing spirit hinder the Holy Spirit from filling the heart?'"

As the question was asked and answered, he said, "I was sitting in the church criticizing much of what was going on, objecting to this thing and to that thing, finding fault with the expressions of praise and testimony and feeling thoroughly unhappy. The Lord brought the answer home to my heart and convicted me of my sin. There and then I laid it down and began to see the good instead of the evil. Blessing fell upon me, and my soul was filled with joy and praise. I saw where my error lay-that for years I had been trying to see the truth with my head instead of my heart."

2012: Our Enlightened New World
By Jafree Oswald

You may have already sensed that a New World is coming into each of our personal lives. If you stop and truly pay attention, you can feel it.

As everything continues moving faster and faster we cannot help but wake up and realize our divine infinite potentiality. We are each being pulled, cajoled, and summoned to spiritually awaken by the people and global events around us.

Our planet's economic, political and environmental shifts are our "wake up calls", forcing us to individually turn inwards, and create a more sensitive, loving, and conscious approach to life.

This deeper sensitivity has in turn awakened a new kind of human being inside all of us. A being who is attuned to their natural divine state within, guided by their intuition, and enlightened by their own individual consciousness.

"The roses bloom so beautifully because they are not trying to become lotuses. All effort is futile. You have to be just yourself." ~Osho

As the world continues to wake us up, the number of enlightened beings will naturally multiply and collectively in time create a New World. This global enlightenment will create a foundation of peace for this planet for the first time in many millennia. Our planet is about to give birth to billions of heart centered open minded people, and nobody is going to miss this massive enlightening ride!!

The experience of world peace is only created by a massive movement of individual inner peace. This global feeling of peace occurs when the "hundredth monkey" wakes up to recognize that inside is something exquisite, unlimited in potential, and truly Divine.

The massive spiritual awakening is also based on a scientific evidence of a true energetic shift in our physical environment. Astronomers have calculated that by Solstice on December 21st 2012, there will be a cosmic perfect alignment of our planet Earth, our Sun, and the very center of our Milky Way galaxy. This is the exact date that the ancient 26,000 year Mayan calendar predicted that the New World will "officially" begin. Many of you are already awake, and are here to simply assist the rest of the planet by being a guiding light for their spiritual awakening.

This outer alignment of our stars or celestial bodies creates an inner alignment within our physical flesh bones and mental/emotional bodies. This divine configuration allows you to become "synchronized" with your world.

As we move closer to this grand alignment, you will automatically be pulled towards this inner alignment of your mind, body, and soul, and rediscover a deeper spiritual alignment with your Divine Source. This bio-energetic centering causes all energy centers (chakras) in your body to open and allow you to simply trust life completely. When peace is found within you, it is seen and experienced all around you. The outer peace you project will allow everyone to relax more deeply and consciously explore every aspect of their being.

"Being content with what you have is priceless. Sun moon and the truth can not be hidden. Happiness is the greatest wealth. Health is the greatest gain. Trustworthy is the best relative. Nirvana is the ultimate bliss." ~Buddha

Our world is already filled with millions of highly intelligent, sensitive, loving and super-psychic beings. Many are radiating love with such a boundless, welcoming soft warm energy that you will be pulled in vibrationally and shift into this higher loving way of naturally operating daily. By 2012 you will "have to" open up to the highest form of love just to survive this intense outer/inner alignment.

The conscious energy on the planet will continue to grow exponentially each year. By the time we approach the end of 2012, there will be over 8000 enlightened beings on this planet which is the tipping point number and enough to create the 100th monkey wave of awakening. Perhaps the most interesting news I've heard is that there already are many highly evolved beings from other planets in our galaxy who will be coming here to watch this grand finale show!

The ideas about a New Enlightened World is very contagious and will grow exponentially. The more we think about it, the more energy is invested into manifesting it. However, the momentum is already there and this world is about to have a massive spiritual awakening that cannot be stopped.

Yet, you can jump on the boat sooner rather than later. To realize what is still asleep, resistant, or righteous in you is the first step to awakening out of the old dream. Waking up first begins with realizing that you are the co-creator of your reality, and that your imagination is the only limit you have. So be aware of the thoughts you are having in each moment, and cultivate a presence that is the witness of these thoughts.

The thoughts you have are like clouds passing through the sky. Let them float on by. Know that you are the vast, spacious, and infinite boundless sky! Be that throughout your day and you will truly recognize this vast freedom that always dwells inside of you.

"Look within, see the Self. Then there will be an end of the world and its miseries." ~ Sri Ramana Maharshi

The more intimate you can become, the more juicy the awakening is. When you start recognizing the divine within yourself and in everyone, then everyone you meet becomes a divine teacher showing you exactly what you need to learn next on your life journey. The people that you struggle with are in your life to give you the opportunity to deepen in compassion and awareness for they are the slower ones getting on the ride. It may be your job to assist them in becoming more open, awake, and loving. When you vibrationally step up to the plate, you will help them create this shift and at the same time open up even more to your highest Self.

Every person you struggle with will only be forcing you to dig deeper into your inner wellspring of lightness, love, and inner peace. The gems you find inside yourself will breed an even higher awareness, allowing others to respond from a more empowered loving space. This will enable you to FEEL connected with the millions of highly intelligent, sensitive, loving, and super-enlightening beings that are already on the planet today.

"Love is not a quantity, it is a quality, and a quality of a certain category that grows by giving, and dies if you hold it. If you are miserly about it, it dies. So really be a spendthrift! Don't bother with whom." ~Osho

A very important step to prepare for this new world spiritual awakening is to learn how to quiet the mind. You can do this easiest by sitting with a conscious "enlightened" master, teacher, or someone who radiates pure love, lightness of being, and absolute acceptance of who you are. Let your body feel the difference and let it decide which one truly resonates with who you want to become next year. And as they say, when the student is ready the teacher will magically appear.

Another step to awakening is to be conscious of each choice that you make. Every being in the New World will understand that there are no "accidents." Every experience is synchronistic and divine. You are waking up to the fact that you are The Creator of your every experience. Take responsibility now for what is in your life today and be thankful for it before you focus on what you want to be, do, and have tomorrow. By approaching today with gratitude, you open your heart and mind in each situation and relationship you have.

"Since everyone is one's own Self, whoever does whatever to whomever is doing it only to himself." ~ Sri Ramana Maharshi

As far as the physical state of the New World, the best choice is to be at-one with your environment. Embody the most natural state of compassion and understanding by being ONE with the earth, air, plants, oceans, animals, sea creatures, and fellow human beings. In the future we will be forced to recycle everything to survive. We will have to use other sustainable resources of energy to create electricity. There will be new advanced technology available for us to create a pollution-free world where we are using free-energy and water-fueled cars will become the norm.

Every man and woman of this New World will know how to live in harmony with others, not because it is the "right" thing to do, but because they will know that any harm done to the other on any level is merely doing harm to their own selves. This global brother/sisterhood will create a more conscious, healthy, and harmonious world for all to enjoy. As each human being becomes more conscious of their thoughts, actions, and how they want to impact their environment the outer world will reap those benefits.

"See the perfection in the seeming imperfection that seems to be." ~ Lester Levinson

The interesting thing is that the more conscious, awake, and open-hearted you become now, the more you will see, feel, and experience that this New World is already here now and happening today. Of course our news and media cannot dictate this perception since they can only relay a small pigeonhole of information about what is actually happening on the planet in each moment.

Yet, the bigger truth is that there is a momentum of deeper spiritual awareness that is blossoming everywhere. The more realistic picture of our future is that our consciousness is like a flower whose petals are blossoming naturally on its own accord. If you take a big whiff you can already smell the fragrance. This world is waking up and your job is to relax and remain open and receptive to what is happening here now.

In the New World everyone comes equipped with the Universal understanding that we are each conscious manifestors of our individual realities. As this understanding deepens and becomes a common household way of being on the planet, the awesome miraculous synchronicities we experience will multiply. Sure we can take them personally and say WE are individually manifesting our outer experiences, or we can take them impersonally and see that we are merely a drop in the Universal ocean that is blossoming this new existence. Either way, there will be a much deeper more personal freedom found in everyone that will truly satisfy our souls!

"We are more free than any thought conceived of what defines freedom. Who we are is far more vast than any thing the mind thinks we are." ~Angela Walker

In order to jump on this global train ride to enlightenment sooner (than later), it is imperative to know yourself intimately. Start with learning how to quiet the mind and find absolute stillness inside. Then, you can be conscious and know the true power behind each choice that you make. Every being in the New World will understand that there are no "accidents." That each person, each interaction, every situation is absolutely synchronistic and divine. You are waking up to the fact that we are all powerful conscious co-creators of our world.

Take responsibility now for what is in your life today and focus on what you want instead of what you do not want. You’ll consciously create the reality you want and be able to approach all beings with an open heart under any circumstances.

"Be whomever you wish to be...you are truly totally free!"

Hebrews 2

Because Christ was man as well as God, He is able to give aid to us who are human.

INSIGHT
Jesus is God, but He was also man; Jesus was man, but He is also God. It is essential that Christ be both God and man. If Christ were not man, He could not have died for our sins. If He were not God, His death would not have been sufficient to pay the price for the sin of mankind. Christ was the perfect sacrifice. In fact, He was the only possible sacrifice able to atone for the sins of man and appease the wrath of God. As you continue to read the book of Hebrews, you will realize that the author's main point is simply this - the superiority of Jesus Christ.

PRAYER
The Lamb of God was the perfect sacrifice for our sin and so we praise Him:
"I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness,
And will hold Your hand;
I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people,
As a light to the Gentiles,
To open blind eyes,
To bring out prisoners from the prison,
Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.
I am the Lord, that is My name;
And My glory I will not give to another,
Nor My praise to carved images.
Behold, the former things have come to pass,
And new things I declare;
Before they spring forth I tell you of them" (Isaiah 42:6-9).

Pause for praise and thanksgiving as you seek to keep your life free from sin:
But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God?
Will the thing formed say to him who formed it,
"Why have you made me like this?" Does not the potter have power over the clay,
from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?
(Romans 9:20-21)

Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind, and pray this affirmation to the Lord:
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb (Psalm 19:9-10).

As you make your requests known to the Lord, include:
better listening skills,
wisdom for governing authorities,
whatever else is on your heart.

Finally, offer this prayer to the Lord:
Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah (Psalm 3:8).

"Will You Let Me Be Your Servant," ELW 659 (Click to view the hymn text below.)

Peter and I have two children at St. Olaf College. We joke about the fact that since we are paying for our children to go to college, we don't have to worry about money ... because we don't have any.

The reality is we are thrilled that they are in school. Their tuition is one of our favorite investments. Other investments we treasure are our gifts to our seminary, Luther Seminary, and to our church, Lord of Life Lutheran.

It is great fun to see how God is at work in the lives of our children, and it is great fun to see how God is at work in the life of the church. We are so privileged to be a part of it all.

Lord God, we give thanks for the resources that allow us to be your partners in caring for your people. We give you thanks that "we are here to help each other ... walk the mile and bear the load." We pray for joyful hearts in all of our giving. Amen.

"Will You Let Me Be Your Servant," ELW 659

1  Will you let me be your servant,
let me be as Christ to you?
Pray that I may have the grace to
let you be my servant, too.

2  We are pilgrims on a journey,
we are trav'lers on the road;
we are here to help each other
walk the mile and bear the load.

3  I will hold the Christ-light for you
in the nighttime of your fear;
I will hold my hand out to you,
speak the peace you long to hear.

4  I will weep when you are weeping;
when you laugh I'll laugh with you.
I will share your joy and sorrow
till we've seen this journey through.

5  Will you let me be your servant,
let me be as Christ to you?
Pray that I may have the grace to
let you be my servant, too.

Stand By My Belief

I am not bound to win;
but I am bound to be true.

I am not bound to succeed;
but I am bound to live by the light that I have.

I must stand with anybody who stands right;
Stand with him while he is right;
Part with him when he goes wrong.

I will stand by my belief. Always.

God Wants To Set You Up For A Blessing

Ruth 2:12
12
The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”

Have you ever wondered why, in some Bible stories, God asked the people to give what little they had to Him? It may appear cruel, but the truth is that God was setting them up for a blessing! God’s way is to use whatever we have, and multiply it back to us once we put it in His hands.

The widow of Zarephath had only a handful of flour and a little oil to make one last meal for her son and herself before they faced starvation. But she trusted God and used a portion of the little that she had to make a cake for the prophet Elijah. And God rewarded her by making sure that her bin of flour was not used up and her jar of oil did not run dry until the drought ended. (1 Kings 17:8–16)

Similarly, the boy who gave his little lunch of five loaves and two small fish to Jesus not only ate well, but he also saw it being used to feed more than 5,000 people with 12 baskets full of leftovers! (John 6:1–13)

Whenever we give what little we have to God, whether it is money, time or energy, it opens up our hearts so that God can fill us up with more. And when we give our lives to God, we can trust Him to make things right for us and to be the rewarder of our faith.

When Ruth, a childless Moabite widow, left the comfort of her home to follow her mother-in-law Naomi and the God of Israel back to a foreign land (Ruth 1:16), she was given a full reward by the Lord. God gave Ruth protection and ensured that she was well-provided for through Boaz, a wealthy relative who took on the role of kinsman-redeemer for her and Naomi. (Ruth 2:9, 4:9–10)

Beloved, as you trust God with what you have today, know that He loves you and is setting you up for more blessings. So expect to see even more of His provision and abundance in the days to come!
