Charles Pratt, Jr. fired as head writer of All My Children
Posted Friday, November 20, 2009 1:16:42 PM
Updated Friday, November 20, 2009 6:04:05 PM
by Dan J Kroll

As the cast and crew of All My Children get ready to pack up and head to Los
Angeles, they'll also have to get used to someone new penning the action in Pine
Valley. Charles Pratt, Jr. has been relieved of his duties as head writer. Pratt
joined the show in June 2008.

All My Children fans were up-ended earlier this year when ABC announced that it
was transitioning production of the show to the West Coast. Now comes another
surprising turn: the show will be moving on without its head writer.. ABC is now
confirming a report made earlier today by soapcentral.com: Charles Pratt, Jr.
has been fired as head writer of All My Children.

Pratt's first day at the helm of All My Children was June 23, 2008. Upon his
hiring, Brian Frons, president, Daytime, Disney-ABC Television Group, referred
to Pratt as "a master storyteller" and touted Pratt's work experience as
something that would "undoubtedly elevate All My Children stories in new and
exciting directions."

Fans, however, have felt otherwise. Over the past six months, viewers have
inundated soapcentral.com's mailboxes with complaints about the direction of the
show. What was to have been a complex and mysterious murder mystery -- the "Who
Killed Stuart?" storyline -- dragged on too long in the eyes of many fans, and
most have expressed dissatisfaction with the plot's resolution. Other viewers
have threatened to tune out and a soap columnist even urged viewers to boycott
the show until Pratt was fired.

In three years, All My Children has had three head writing regimes. In February
2007, the ABC soap dismissed Megan McTavish as its head writer amid complaints
that the show had become too dark. Three months later, Barbara Esensten and
James Harmon Brown were unveiled as co-head writers. A year later, Esensten and
Brown were out and Pratt was in.

Though the network confirms Pratt's ouster, ABC declined to offer additional
comment. A replacement for Pratt has yet to be named.

Leven Rambin to return to AMC, appear on Grey's Anatomy
Posted Tuesday, November 17, 2009 11:01:29 AM
by Dan J Kroll

Emmy-nominated actress Leven Rambin (ex-Lily Montgomery and Ava Benton) will
appear this week on an episode of ABC's primetime medical drama, Grey's Anatomy.

The special episode spans the course of several months. As Thanksgiving,
Christmas and New Year's pass, Mark and Lexie must cope with the shocking
arrival of a woman from his past, played by Rambin. In previews for the episode,
Rambin's character utters the line, "I'm pretty sure you're my dad."

Meanwhile, Miranda is visited by her father, William, who disapproves of her
choices in life; and Thatcher Grey questions the Chief's recent behavior as
Meredith comes to his defense.

Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays on ABC from 9:00 to 10:01 p.m. ET.

Rambin assumed the role of the autistic Lily Montgomery in June 2004. She exited
All My Children on June 10, 2008, when Lily headed off to college. Fans can look
for Lily to return to Pine Valley for All My Children's 40th anniversary
episode, which will air January 5, 2010.

Julia Barr returning to All My Children
Posted Wednesday, November 11, 2009 6:17:55 PM
by Dan J Kroll

Julia Barr will reprise the role of Brooke English next year. It will mark the
first time that All My Children viewers have seen the actress since the two-time
Emmy winner was cut from the cast in 2006. Barr first appeared as Brooke in
1976.

For the past three years, All My Children fans have been wondering what happened
to Brooke English, played for nearly 30 years by two-time Emmy winner Julia Barr
(Brooke English). AMC fans are about to find out: Barr will return to All My
Children in January.

Unfortunately, Barr's return is scheduled only for one episode -- All My
Children's 40th anniversary spectacular. As soap fans know, things can happen --
and there's always the potential that Barr could return for more AMC action in
the weeks and months ahead.

Barr is just one in a long line of stars that are returning for the All My
Children milestone. As previously reported, Mark Consuelos (Mateo Santos) and
Kelly Ripa (Hayley Vaughan) are returning the show that gave them their big
break. SOAPnet is also reporting that Eva LaRue (Maria Santos), Laurence Lau
(Greg Nelson), Taylor Miller (Nina Cortlandt), Leven Rambin (Lily Montgomery),
and Eden Riegel (Bianca Montgomery) will also find their way back to Pine Valley
for the celebration.

In 2006, Barr refused requests by network brass to drop to recurring status. As
a result, simply stopped writing story for Brooke English and Brooke simply
vanished from the canvas. It was a decision that outraged long-time viewers. The
show scripted no farewell episode and after appearing as a mourner at a funeral,
Brooke was never seen or heard from again.

"I had assumed that I would have a final scene regarding my character's
departure -- certainly with Tad or Jamie, or even a last jab at Erica," Barr
said in a statement at the time. "I think the fans would have liked the chance
to say goodbye to Brooke and to have had some closure with the character many
have known for 30 years. I know it is what I would have wanted. However, it was
not the decision that was made for whatever reason."

Barr joined the cast of All My Children in 1976. She exited the show in 1980,
but returned two years later. She remained with the show for the next 24 years.

All My Children will mark its 40th anniversary on January 5, 2010.

Lucci to lead Christmas Parade
Posted Sunday, November 08, 2009 8:47:16 PM
by Dan J Kroll

It's yet another honor for legendary All My Children star Susan Lucci. The
actress is going to lead one of the nation's best-known parades.

Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) has been named the Grand Marshal of the Hollywood
Christmas Parade. It's just another in a long list of honors for the
Emmy-winning actress.

"I am thrilled and honored to serve as the Grand Marshal of the 2009 Hollywood
Christmas Parade," Lucci said in a statement. "I am so happy that this year's
parade will be telecast for the first time ever as a two-hour primetime
television event, spreading holiday cheer and happiness to Americans across the
country. The Hollywood Christmas Parade is for children and families, both of
whom are very important to me in my personal life. Soon All My Children will be
relocating from New York to Los Angeles in January 2010 where the show will be
filmed in the years ahead. I'm looking forward to working in Los Angeles and
enjoying the beautiful sunny weather in the Southland."

The parade takes place on November 29 in Hollywood and will be taped for
broadcast on the MyNetworkTV channel on December 10 and December 24. Check your
local listings for the time and channel in your area.

Alicia Minshew has a baby girl
Posted Wednesday, November 04, 2009 12:44:30 PM
by Dan J Kroll

All My Children star Alicia Minshew (Kendall Hart) has just landed her biggest
role to date: Mom.

Minshew and husband Richie Herschenfeld, welcomed their first child -- a baby
girl -- earlier today . The baby was not due until later this month, but she
decided to make her debut at 6:42 a.m. on November 4. She has been named Willow
Lenora Herschenfeld; the baby's middle name honors Minshew's mother, Lenore.
Little Willow weighed in at 5 lbs., 2 oz.

While the actress has yet to make a statement of her own, earlier this year
Minshew said that she and her husband were "so thrilled" to be becoming parents.

It's already an amazing twelve months for Minshew. In October 2008, she and
Hershenfeld were married. In May of this year, Minshew received her very first
Daytime Emmy nomination.

All My Children opted not to write Minshew's pregnancy into the show. However,
fans can expect to see Kendall off-screen for a period of time while Minshew
takes maternity leave. The show has not revealed when Minshew will be written
out or when she will return.

Riegel says she won't return to LA-based AMC
Posted Monday, November 02, 2009 5:15:46 PM
by Dan J Kroll

Eden Riegel will not be returning to All My Children when the show heads west in
January. The actress broke the news to fans via Twitter. Since leaving her role
as Bianca Montgomery, Riegel has been working on the online series, Imaginary
Bitches.

When ABC announced this summer that it would be moving production of All My
Children to Los Angeles, the network promised that some familiar faces from the
past would be returning to the show. Fans immediately assumed that two of those
"familiar faces" would be the Los Angeles-based Rebecca Budig (Greenlee Smythe)
and Eden Riegel (Bianca Montgomery). Both actresses previously left their roles
on All My Children because the cross-country commute was too much of a pain.

Last month, Budig confirmed that she'd be returning to the show. Now, Riegel
has stepped up to announce her future plans with AMC: she has none.

"Hey guys, not-great news to share," Riegel posted on her Twitter page. "Looks
like it isn't going to work out for me going back to AMC when they move out to
LA. I'm very sad..."

Riegel offered no additional details on why she is unable to return to All My
Children.

Eden Riegel joined the cast of All My Children in July 2000. She left full-time
employment on the soap in 2005, but has returned several times since then for
short-term appearances. The actress last appeared in Pine Valley in April 2009.

A spokesperson for All My Children had no comment on Riegel's announcement.

Hi, I'm new and I'm a huge Rebecca fan. I'm not really enjoying AMC these days,
but I'm hoping her return will bring something fresh to the show.
Can't wait to talk to you all soon!
