Title:  In Full Bloom - Chapter Two (2/?)
Author:  mustlovesugarheart
Type:  M/F, romantic comedy
Pairing:  Orlando Bloom/Madeline Wentworth (OFC).
Rating:  PG-13
Disclaimer:  I don't know (or own) Orlando Bloom or any other celebrities, celebrity family members, or entourage mentioned in this fictional story. I'm not paid for this and this is just for a bit of shared entertainment. Other characters and situations are completely made up, or inspired, and are by no means meant as any sort of disrespect. Coincidences are merely coincidences. Don't sue me. Cheers!
Summary:  It is Spring 2009 and Orlando is on hiatus after suffering multiple, devastating blows to his career and his personal life. While spending a month meditating in a beautiful, isolated Buddhist monastery in Japan, a wise monk tells him to go back to Canterbury. There he would find what he is missing. In scenic and historic Canterbury he is reunited with childhood neighbor and friend, Madeline Wentworth, now an award-winning children's book author and illustrator, also back from abroad. Happily conspiring family members and the beautiful Kentish countryside throw these two together. Could it be that love is finally about to "bloom" between these two childhood friends? Madeline surely hopes so.
Author's Note:  Sorry for how chapter one came out to look in the emails sent and on the board. I don't know how that happened. I'll try and fix. Fingers crossed for this one to look alright. Comments and reviews would be nice in the future. I know there really isn't much to go by as of now, but I'm really excited for the upcoming chapters. Thanks for reading.

CHAPTER TWO

If only Madeline could have kept her cool instead of bursting into tears three years ago when Sonia told her that Orlando planned to marry Kate. She had gotten her hopes up with their first break-up and then it became all too real when Sonia delivered the not-so-good news. But even when she cried in front of his mom and grandmother, they confessed that they always knew about her feelings for him. Almost everyone did, possibly including Orlando.

Two years ago when Orlando and Kate broke up for good Madeline finally mustered enough courage to go to him and confess her feelings. She hadn't expected that he had changed a lot thanks to his glamorous career. She had just assumed that Kate's allegations were born out of bitterness because Orlando was the one who ended the relationship. What was supposed to be the beginning of something very beautiful turned out to be a complete and total wreck. Quite literally, actually.

On the night of Madeline's arrival Orlando said that he'd take her to dinner. She had been so nervous and excited, only to discover that they would not be dining alone. Orlando's stylist was with him when he picked her up from her hotel.

Dinner was abysmal. Madeline had hoped for an intimate dinner that would set the scene for her important confession, but instead it was a business meeting for crying out loud! Orlando even tried persuading Madeline to work with his stylist. Both of them seemed to think that Madeline could use a more sophisticated style "like Kate and Miranda," his stylist even had the audacity to say in front of her.

Then there was the car accident that followed afterwards. They were being chased by the paparazzi and in a haze Orlando crashed into a parked Porshe. His stylist, who took the front seat instead of Madeline, suffered a gash to the head. And despite her masked insults towards her earlier that evening and making her take the backseat, Madeline felt sorry for the poor woman. She, on the other hand, in the back seat had semi-fractured her neck. If it had been any worse, she would have died!

And Orlando, oh Orlando, took his stylist's advice to flee the scene initially. Madeline couldn't believe it. When they were younger Orlando was one of her heroes at school warding off the bullies who teased her for being of mixed race and wearing glasses. At that moment she was handicapped in a different country with a woman she didn't even like, and Orlando was abandoning her to save face for his career. He must have thought her tears were only for the pain she felt in her neck. Bollocks! She felt completely and totally betrayed and let down.

And what was the icing on this bloody cake was that Miranda came to see them at the emergency room. It would be the first and last time Madeline would meet the bloody supermodel, who was impeccably dressed, even for such a visit. With exaggerated worry marred on her face she had really only come to check on Orlando, who was uninjured…the bloody, betraying bastard.

Miranda was kind enough to show some genuine care towards Madeline, but it irked her extremely that Miranda baby-talked to her. What the hell was that about? She was older than the broad! And here Miranda was treating her like a complete child, as if to put Madeline in her place. First Orlando's stylist insulted her by saying that she wasn't sophisticated like Miranda, and now the bloody model, herself, was belittling her. Madeline was more than a little angry.

It was salt poured into an open wound when Orlando, upon Miranda's arrival, was more concerned about them being caught together, than Madeline's well-being. He even left her with Miranda to make calls to his agent and publicist over that new situation. Luckily Madeline could feign sleep, which fortunately did come thanks to the painkillers.

She left for England the next day with a neck brace and a severely shattered, betrayed heart. She ceased any contact with Orlando and avoided him like the plague…until now.

She really should have seen their mothers' plan coming. Just three days ago Sonia and Nan came to visit her at the cottage imploring her to open her heart to Orlando again. They were very worried that he might lose himself to something dark like drink or drugs, or even worse, death.

"Please, Maddy," his mom pleaded to her, "Please be his friend. He needs someone who knew him before all this to remind him how to be again."

Madeline really couldn't believe the turn of events. Just when she had cried her last tear for him and removed him from her heart, his mother and grandmother were at her doorstep asking her reopen those wounds to let him in.

"What about Jason?" she asked. "They're still best friends."

Sonia and Nan gave her one of those looks.

Madeline let out a heavy sigh which matched her heavy heart.

"Alright," she relented. "I'll try."

That was only three days ago and now here Madeline was alone with Orlando in his mum's kitchen...doing dishes. He washed. She dried and put them away.

So they wanted him to stay with her, did they. Well they surely weren't beating around the bush or wasting any time.

There was an outburst of laughter from outside where the elders were still sipping their evening glass of wine and chatting.

"Just like old times," Orlando commented as he looked out the window to watch them.

"Yeah," Madeline said after putting away the last dish and putting her pride on the line.

She worried her lower lip and tried to calm her thundering heart. This was a pretty big deal, you know. It took her two, excruciating years for her to finally get over the man she's loved almost all of her twenty-nine years. Now she was going to abide their parents' wishes and help an old love piece himself back together. AND, this was to be done in her own private sanctuary. It was more than a risk. It was practically suicide for her newly refortified heart. But this was Orli. Madeline would never forgive herself if something bad happened to him, if she could have prevented it. Stupid, bleeding heart!

"You know, Orli," she finally mustered enough courage to begin.

Orlando wiped his hands on the dish towel and looked at her. It was then that Madeline finally got to see the tell-tale signs of a broken man in the making. Under his eyes were dark circles. His skin looked a little sallow and he looked a little thinner than he had been before. But it was his eyes that told her that he was truly lost and hurting. She couldn't deny them. They bore down to her heart and went a-knocking.

"It might not be that bad of an idea for you to come and stay with me," she suggested.

He only tilted his head to consider her.

"The cottage is perfect for seeking a moment's peace. The grounds are very nice too. Very relaxing and scenic. It's all open fields and trees there," she began her persuasive speech.

"There's private access to a small river nearby. You could go fishing, or rafting, or swim in private even," she started to sound like a bleeding travel agent.

"The Millers have a pool, too, that you could use, if you want. They're really nice about things like that. They're really lovely people," she continued.

Orlando just looked indifferent to her persuasive speech.

Madeline continued still, "I also have an adjacent shed that I've converted into an art studio. You could do some painting or even have my dad lend you a sculpting kit."

"I will admit that the cottage is a little snug, but it definitely has its charm. Although, I only have a tiny guest room. The boys usually use it when I steal them from Jack and Susan. There's a toilet next to it," Madeline described.

Was Orlando even listening to a word she was saying? His face was just so stoic.

"There's also only one bathroom on the top floor next to my room, but that shouldn't really be a big deal, right? We can set up a bathing schedule. Unless you're too posh for the likes of country folk these days," she joked but it was like she was having a conversation with herself. She felt so awkward.

"And it's likely that you won't see much of me anyway, if that's what you want. I spend a lot of time with the Millers since they don't have much company other than their caregivers and the help around the house," she added.

Still nothing. Madeline rolled her eyes at his nonchalance and mumbled something unflattering about him under her breath. Well, Aunt Sonia and Nan couldn't blame her for not trying. Orlando was being difficult.

Just when she put down her very twisted dish towel and made a move to leave him to his antics, he trapped her with an arm on each side of her leaning against the counter. Madeline's heartbeat quickened and her breathing slowed.

He leaned very close to her face and whispered into her ear intimately, "And how do I know that you won't accost my person while I'm there?"

Despite his slightly haggard looks Madeline spotted a very familiar, devilish twinkle in his eye. The little bleeder was playing her for a lovefool...again! Oh, he used to do this too her ALL THE TIME when they were younger. It was part of the reason that she always clung onto the belief that he felt something for her too. She always did blame his flirtatious teasing for her lovesick condition. The asshole!

"Oi! Get off!" Madeline shrieked and shoved him away from her.

Orlando just laughed at her, which resulted in Madeline hitting his arm repeatedly. Well, perhaps slapping was a better word for it.

He was only pretending to be uninterested and lifeless to see her uncomfortable. Pushing her over the edge with his Cassanova charade was icing on the cake. He always loved messing with her.

Orlando grabbed her discarded, wet dish towel and started swatting her bum with it.

The elders turned to see what the commotion was about and laughed.

There was a big smack followed by Madeline's shriek, "Ow, Orli! That  really hurt, you wanker!"

At seeing Madeline boxing her son's ear and him laughing heartily while he counter-attacked, Sonia whispered to her friend, "It's already working."

Jacqueline smiled and put an arm around her seated friend. They toasted their wine glasses with a resounding ching.

"And what would your boyfriend think about this?" Orlando asked Madeline, whom he had successfully manuvered into a headlock.

"Jesse, wasn't it?" he asked.

"Oof!" Madeline heaved and released herself from his hold.

Smoothing back her hair and rearranging her clothing Madeline huffed and said, "Jesse and I have been broken up for years Orlando."

"So some new guy then?" Orlando inquired as he straightened up his appearance as well.

Madeline glared at him. He could be so dim at times.

"No," Madeline curtly replied.

With a devilish grin Orlando asked, "A girl then?"

Madeline pinched his arm rather hard.

"Ouch!" Orlando winced but chuckled. "I think you might have broken skin."

He examined his arm.

"You tease too much, Orlando," Madeline said taking his arm, none too gently, to see if she had indeed caused him to bleed, which she hadn't.

"When it come to you, Maddy-love, it's what I live for," Orlando said and quickly planted a kiss upon her cheek.

What he had not expected was that she would reflexively slap him across the face in turn.

"Oh God, I'm so sorry," Madeline apologized.

What the bloody hell happened? It must have been her body in overdrive. Her system was malfunctioning after softening towards Orlando after years of teaching herself to loathe him instead of love him.

Orlando rubbed his cheek gingerly for it really stung.

"That's alright," he said.

There was an awkward silence and Madeline cringed on the inside. She really blew it now. There was a lovely red mark forming on Orlando's pretty face.

"Well, I guess that settles it then," Orlando said gloomily.

Madeline finally looked at him with remorse in her eyes.

With a heavy sigh Orlando added, "My virtue will be safe while I'm staying at the cottage with you."

He grinned at Madeline and she let out a sigh of relief.

"Virtue my ass," she replied cheekily.

They announced that Orlando was going to stay with Madeline to their family, who all but shoved them out the front door.

"You should go before it gets dark," said a very enthusiastic Jacqueline.

"The drive at dusk is really beautiful, isn't it mum?" Sonia asked her mother who nodded.

Madeline's father gave her a look that confused her. He looked a little reluctant and maybe a tad disapproving to the idea of Orlando staying with her. She knew her father loved Orlando and Samantha like family, so it was intriguing to see his reaction.

He kissed her cheek and said, "Take great care, sweet." There was an emphasis on the word 'great' concerning the word 'care'. Madeline was completely confused now by his coded message. Take great care of herself or Orli?

Mason shook Orlando's hand with a stern look. "Be good to her," was all he said to the young man and then smiled. Weird, Orlando thought.

Upon arriving to their cars Madeline 'tsked-tsked' him. She looked at his Audi and then to her Prius. "I'm surprised at you, Orlando," she said.

Orlando was about to make his case but she promptly said, "Keep up."

The drive to Miller Estate was a scenic, and somewhat long drive. They passed the busy and bustling streets of Canterbury and drove through open countryside. They then drove through and around a quaint, idealistic English country village and continued down a one road path lined with trees. The sun was starting to lower in the sky and the golden light filtered past the trees' leaves into his car. The village became smaller and smaller as they drove on. Its dark silhouette was outlined with the setting sun's golden light. His mum and grandmother were right. It was really beautiful to see.

Madeline's white Prius started to slow and Orlando became aware of an ancient, gray stone wall with a black iron gate ahead. She slowly stopped and Orlando heard his cell phone ring. He didn't recognize the number but answered anyway.

It was Madeline. So his assumptions were right two years ago. She had changed her changed her numbers. She really must have hated his guts then, which confused him to why she was being friendly to him now. She probably pitied him, and Orlando hated that very much.

Madeline informed him that she called the Millers and they were excited about his arrival. They wanted to meet him tonight but she said that tomorrow would be best. Smart girl, Orlando thought. She gave him the access code just in case the gate closed behind her. She warned him not to forget the code because she wasn't going to tell him twice. She laughed and then hung up.

Madeline sped ahead of him when the gate opened and Orlando quickly followed her into the compound not needing to punch in the code, which he did forget. They turned left onto a different path and drove along the outline of some trees. Her car slowly turned right and Orlando followed suit.

It was then that he saw the pretty, little cottage that Madeline called home. He actually chuckled when he saw the painted exterior of the Cotswold style cottage. It definitely looked like 'home away from home' to him but only in minature.

They parked along some trees and got out of their cars.

"Lovely," Madeline said quite proudly looking at her cottage, "Isn't she?"

"She?" Orlando asked giving her one of animated looks.

"Of course it's a she? I mean look at it. It couldn't very well be a he," she reasoned.

She crossed her arms above her chest and made a face back at him.

Orlando scoffed then asked, "And what is her name?"

"Never really thought of one, actually," she admitted then looked back her home.

Orlando folded his arms across his chest and studied her home with her.

"How about Pearl?" he suggested. "Like the Black Pearl."

"I probably should tell you that you're daft and that is a ridiculous name," Madeline said shortly after.

Her head tilted a little to the side and she pondered. Meanwhile Orlando popped the trunk to his car to star getting his luggage.

"I think it's very fitting actually," she then said, "How very creative, Orli. Did you just make it up?"

Handing her one of his bags, a rather large one just to irk her, he answered, "Actually it's what I named my house in LA, which looks exactly like this but probably twenty times larger."

Putting his suitcase on the ground and placing a hand on her hip Madeline replied, "I'll have you know that this cottage has been here for two hundred years. What can you say about that? And to top things off, it's been this color for almost as long. You, plagiarizer!"

"Plagiarizer?" Orlando scoffed and started heading towards her front door.

"Merely a coincidence after my mum told me about your new cottage, that's all," he replied and then gave her a devilish grin.

Madeline scrunched her nose at him and followed him through her front garden gate towards her front door.

"It does bring out the surrounding nature, though. That's what Mum said," Orlando added, "but that doesn't mean I copied you."

He stood at her step and Madeline parked the suitcase she had been rolling in front of her. She stared at him, or so he thought, and then laughed.

"What?" Orlando asked.

His hand immediately went to the zipper of his jeans which made Madeline laugh harder.

"Mother of Pearl," she laughed.

"What?" Orlando asked this ridiculous female.

"Your house in LA. It's the Mother of Pearl," she chuckled to herself and brushed passed him to unlock her door.

Orlando shook his head and grinned wildly. She was such a nutter. So she decided her cottage would be called Pearl, after the Black Pearl, which was the color of both of their homes. By Mother of Pearl she was referring to his LA home and another color, which was what his home had been previously, sort of. Orlando just chuckled and followed her inside.

"Well," she said quite proudly again, this time with wide arms open to show off the expanse (or lack of it) inside, "Welcome to my humble home, officially."

Orlando took a quick look around past her. It was humble, but cozy and charming would be better words to describe it. It was full of English and Maddy quirky charm and comfort.

"Leave that there," she instructed and took his hand, which sent a surprising jolt through Orlando.

He had the funniest, private thought of feeling like he was jolted back to life by her touch. He didn't have time to ponder it though because Madeline was on a roll.

Taking a few paces to his left Madeline dropped his hand, which he mentally noted the difference, and said, "This is the living room. There are a bunch of books in here. Cds and cd player is located over there. That's also an I-pod stereo."

Orlando followed her hand's direction. She then pointed over to the TV and where extra blankets could be found underneath.

It was pretty inviting Orlando thought. Natural lighting came in through two windows. There was a large one that looked out into the front garden and then another on the opposite wall. The room had lots of seating with a sofa, a bench, two arm chairs, and even one of those tufted coffee tables that were also used for sitting. The focal point of the room was the fireplace. Orlando imagined many family gatherings here and felt a little down for not having been there for them.

She took a few steps to the right and showed him her kitchen.

"The kitchen. Quite self-explanatory. And small. I'm sure you'll figure out where everything's at quickly," she said with a smile.

Orlando only got a brief look at her small kitchen was really small compared to his in LA, but it had a certain special feeling about it. He couldn't put his finger on what because Madeline was already jogging up her little, country stairs.

"And now let me show you my room," she said quite excitedly.

Orlando raised an eyebrow at her.

"Pshah, Orli! I'm not trying to get into your knickers" she exasperated.

Orlando shrugged his shoulders and replied, "Just checking."

Madeline scoffed and continued, "It's the only part of the house that has been completely remodeled. And the bathroom is up there as well."

There were three steps up to the landing and five more up to the next floor.

Madeline excitedly opened the the wooden, cottage door and announced,"My room."

The room was completely different from the decor that was downstairs. It was also the size of Orlando's master bedroom closet back in LA. The room was completely different from what Orlando might have imagined from Madeline as well. He expected something modern, bold-colored, and possibly something of Scandanavian design. Instead her room was very feminine and romantic. He recognized the Baroque style. There were chandeliers and Louis XIV chairs. The room was a light cream color with soft yellow hues. It looked like a minature version of a suite at the Ritz in Paris. It had a calm, luxurious, and sensual feel to it, things that Orlando hardly associated Madeline with.

He marveled at his paradox of a friend. Sure she may look like an urban, tomboyish geek on the exterior, but like inside her treasured home she was still a fairytale loving, romantic, girly-girl. His mum once said something to his grandmother when he was a lot younger about Maddy hiding her girlish ways to be more like her older brothers. Sonia said that Madeline feared that they would adore her less, if they saw her as a girly-girl. It made sense now. She was certainly as fun, entertaining, and adventurous as her older brothers, but deep downn inside she still was a romantic. That surprised Orlando.

"I stayed at the Ritz once a year ago and fell in love with the decor. I didn't stay in the very expensive and lavish suites but I did get to see them. The Elton John suite was by far my favorite," Madeline said.

Orlando nodded his head. So she had been to the Ritz too. He wondered with whom.

"The bathroom is over here," she directed him towards a frosted glass door and opened it.

It was small but for the girly-girl that Madeline was proving to be, it was perfect. Everything was white and dainty. She even had a pink robe that hung at the door. There was a white clubfoot bath and a retro white sink. There was natural lighting coming in through a window by the tub, which had a vase of fresh cut flowers on its sill, and a small window on the opposite of the door. It looked very retro and girly, but highly functional of course.

"Bath and shower in one," she informed and then opened a closet. "Clean towels and such are in here. Soap. Shampoo. Hair Dryer. Whatever you need."

She pointed to a box of tampons, "Tampons, perhaps?" and laughed at her own joke.

Orlando grinned. He was getting the warm, fuzzy feeling inside. It felt rather nice, actually. Refreshing and new.  Orlando didn't have much time to ponder that either because Madeline suddenly announced, "Now for your room."

They walked a short distance down the stairs, past the kitchen, and through a very, very small hallway.

To his left they stopped and Orlando could tell that it was Madeline's small library. One wall was covered top to bottom with shelves of books, excluding the one space for a door.

"The library," she said, "Feel free to read whatever. I sometimes work in here, if not in the art studio or at the Miller's. They encourage me to work there, actually."

"That door over there," she pointed to the door that shared the wall with shelves of books, "leads to the back garden."

Madeline reached for one door but hesitated. Instead she directed Orlando to another door and opened.

"The lower level and guest room toilet," she said.

Her excitement wavered at this point Orlando noticed. She stepped aside and let him look in it. It was small indeed but clean and practical. There was a regular, white toilet, of course, a small white sink, and a big, golden, baroque style mirror above it. There was a very tiny corner unit that contained hand towels, soaps, and other small toiletries.

"I know it's not quite big, but it works and it's clean," she explained quite solemnly.

With a deep breath she placed her hand on the other door's knob and twisted.

Before she pushed the door open she warned, "I know this might come as a bit of a shock for you, being that you're used to much larger residences as you informed me before we came inside."

She hesitated and went on, "I must tell you again that it's very small. My nephews usually bunk up in here, or Jason, or whomever comes through."

Orlando waited impatiently as she stalled. He was beginning to wonder what was behind the door other than a small room. She made it seem like it was the door to the great abyss.

With a sigh she pushed the door open and stepped aside so that he could walk in.

"I'll understand if you decide not to stay after seeing this," she admitted.

Orlando walked into the room, which took but two steps. She did not lie. It WAS tiny. The bed took up most of it but it was a large enough bed for him. By her drasttic detailing he was expecting that he'd be sleeping in a twin sized bed, or bunk beds, or even a foldaway cot. But no, the bed looked to be queen sized, just like the one upstairs.

The room was decorated in a neutral colors that gave a clean yet serene affect. There was an adequate window next to the bed, literally, that looked out to a nice bit of garden. At the foot of the bed, literally, on built-in shelving was a display of sailboats. Funnily enough Orlando recognized them from his youth. He, Madeline, and their siblings used to play with them at the River Stour.

Turning around Orlando found that the walls contained pictures of family and friends and a couple of watercolors and artwork by Madeline's nephews he presumed. One of them showed a woman in pants with black hair holding the hands of two, little boys with brown hair on each side of her. Orlando grinned and resumed looking at the photographs on the wall.

He spotted himself in one of them along with Samantha, Madeline and her siblings. He must have been in his early teens then. It was very surreal looking at it and then looking over to Madeline who leaned upon the door frame. Here she was at age twenty-nine but in the picture she must have been at least ten.

She looked at the picture that he had been looking at. "That's one of my favorite pictures," she said.

Olrando looked at it with her and replied, "Brighton."

Madeline nodded.

"I remember this day," Orlando said thinking back on it and smiling at the memory.

Madeline grinned at him and replied, "You should."

Orlando sat upon the bed a regarded Madeline.

"It's a very fitting room," he said.

Madeline, being Madeline, haughtily retorted, "Are you punning me?"

Orlando just shook his head. Madeline had some sense of humor. First with 'Mother of Pearl', and now the switcheroo of the words 'pun' and 'fun'.

"Pathetic," he commented at her lame, but amusing joke.

"I'd rather call it witty," she said with a wide grin.

She yanked him up by his hand and said, "C'mon, mate. You still haven't seen the best part."

Orlando felt that spark again.

They walked back into her tiny library and through the back door. Her back garden was very inviting and Orlando could tell that a lot of visitors came through just by the size of the table outside. It was practically as long as the house, okay, maybe not really. Orlando imagined happy moments and delicious meals shared between his family and Madeline's family gathered around it, but never him. The thought troubled him.

They approached an even smaller version of Madeline's cottage. 'Baby of Pearl' Orlando thought to himself, but it wasn't nearly as clever as Madeline's joke. With a big smile Madeline opened the door and walked inside.

It may have been small but there was a certain energy vibrating through it. Creative energy Orlando recognized. There was just so much to imagine and create inside this tiny converted shed.

"This is my indoor playground, I guess you could say," Madeline said proudly.

"I don't usually work in here because I fear setting off the vibe," she added.

She then started pointing to different drawers and cupboards saying that this contained oil paints and brushes, and that was where he could find the solutions needed for developing photos. She said that he could sculpt in this corner and that an Ipod stereo was on the work bench next to the door. As she was talking Orlando's mind was full of possiblilty and excitement. He felt liberated also.

Noticing this Madeline went behind the door and took an apron from the hook on it. She handed it to Orli.

"Have fun," she said with a smile for encouragement.

Orlando looked at her with wonder and reverence.

"Thank you, Maddy," he said sincerely, "for bringing me here."

She nonchalantly shrugged her shoulders and smiled at him.

Orlando grinned and said, "I'd kiss your cheek but I'm afraid that I'd be assaulted."

Madeline chuckled and shook her head. The next thing Orlando knew was that he was suddenly wrapped in her warm embrace, and that it felt very good and right. He inhaled her warm, flowery scent and melted into the softness of her body. She felt so real unlike the shadow he carried of her in his memory these last two years. He felt different being next to her. A good different. Warm, refreshing, and clear.

Madeline stoked his back affectionately, the feel of which tingled everywhere for him, and replied, "I'm very glad you are here, Orli."

And she really meant it. Stupid, bloody heart!

CHAPTER ONE

Orlando took a deep breath in. It surely felt and smelt like home, well that and mouth-watering barbeque. He closed his eyes, took another, deep inhale, and smiled. It had to be Mrs. Wentworth's famous teriyaki. There was no other smell or taste like it in the world. A pang of nostalgia and craving hit him. He must be on the right track.

He immediately opened his eyes at the sound of a person taking an inhale right next to him. He turned his head and his eyes fixed on a petite woman mimicking him. Well maybe not that petite, only shorter thanMiranda. He knew this woman standing here to be at least 5'6". Her dark hair was pulled back into one of those sloppy buns on very top of her head, a style he had seen many times worn by young, trendy women in Japan. Framing her closed eyes were black, Buddy Holly spectacles. And she wore a simple outfit of a plain, black tee, straight leg jeans, and canvas Converse trainers.

Orlando knew her immediately, even before she dreamily opened her eyes, let out a pleased sigh, and smiled at him.

For a moment he just wanted to stand and stare at the pretty, tan face belonging to this almost mythical creature standing beside him. Instead, he threw his arms around the young woman and exclaimed, "Madeline Wentworth, were the bloody hell have you been!?!"

Seriously, where had she been? He had been trying to connect with her for two bloody years, but finally took the hint that she hated his guts after the accident he got her in two years ago.

Madeline laughed as her head surfaced from his crushing embrace and settled upon his shoulder perfectly. Her arms lovingly slid around him and she inhaled the special, warm scent of Orlando; the man she's loved practically all her life.

"It's good to see you, too, stranger," she replied happily and not wanting the moment to end.

Gathered around the table in his mum's backyard Orlando's gaze often fell upon Madeline, who was seated between his favorite grandmother, Celia, and Madeline's father, Mason Wentworth. They were the only "young people" present at today's barbeque, and it did feel sort of incomplete without the rest of the crew. Orlando hadn't realized how much he missed those times.

Missing were Orlando's older sister, Samantha, and Madeline's two older brothers Jackson and Jason. Samantha was currently on location in London, where he had left her, shooting scenes for a movie she'd been cast in. Jackson, or Jack, who is four years older than Orlando, lives up in Scotland with his bonnie, Scottish wife and two sons. Jack is a popular, suspense writer. And Jason, who had been Orlando's closest and best friend since elementary school, was currently in Germany for an art exhibit. Jason is a reputed artist, much like his father Mason.

Mason Wentworth is the greatest man Orlando has ever gotten to know, and he's known him practically his whole life. The Wentworths moved nexted door to the Blooms when Orlando was six. It was only too convenient that he and Jason were already best buddies in primary school at St. Edmund's.

Orlando spent a lot of time with the Wentworths, when not with his own family and Colin, whom he later recognized as his biological father. It was Mason who first taught Orlando art and sculpture, and even photography, along with his children. It was also Mason who had helped Orlando adjust to the fact that Colin was really his father and not Harry. It had been a very confusing period.

Mason hadn't changed much with age. True, his once brown hair was now gray, his skin aptly wrinkled when he laughed, which he did often, and his once, stark blue eyes were now a lighter shade behind his glasses, but in all, Mason still stayed pretty much the same. He still towered over his ever-adorable and kind, 5'3", Filipino wife, Jacqueline.

Uncle Mase and Aunt Jackie, which is what Orlando and Samantha had called them since forever  it seemed, met when a young Mason took his world travels. He saw her on the beach at Boracay and it was love at first sight. Their love story was the kind of stuff you found in an epic book.

The thought of books brought Orlando's focus back to Madeline. Yes, books. Taking inspiration from the older brothers she so doted upon, Madeline because both an author and an artist. She wrote and illustrated children's books, claiming that it was her namesake. She was named after the beloved children's books by Ludwig Bemelmans. And like her older brothers, she was quite successful. At age twenty-nine, she had ten books published in seventeen different languages sold worldwide, and most of them were award-winners.

She used to be such an odd creature growing up. Despite being the youngest, the only girl, and probably the most cherished by all her family, she was remarkably quiet and shy growing up. She was also very prim and proper, too, which astounded everyone. The adults always used to say that she was "an old soul". Luckily for her, she had her brothers and Orlando to loosen her up. Being forced to take part in their reckless adventures, she learned to have a little bit of spunk. The kids at school who once bullied her for wearing glasses and being of mixed race stopped then.

Madeline was looking quite pretty these days. Well, she always did have such a lovely, naturally tan complexion, bright eyes, and an easy smile, Orlando admitted. She must have lost some weight since the last time he saw her. Orlando mentally cringed recalling that disastrous evening.

Snapping him back from his gloomy thoughts, Aunt Jackie patted his cheek affectionately.

"I'm so happy that you've come home," she said taking her seat beside him.

"You've brought my daughter out from her country hole," she continued.

Orlando saw Madeline roll her eyes as she took another swig from her beer bottle and he laughed one of his trademark laughs. Her dad lovingly ruffled her hair.

"Work, work, work," Aunt Jackie went on, "It's all you kids do."

She put her arm around Orlando and asked, "Why don't you guys settle down? You and Maddy, huh?"

Madeline choked and coughed. Orlando's grandmother patted her back in assistance.

"Easy, dear," the old woman said.

Composing herself Madeline replied, "Thanks, Nan."

"And your sister, Samantha, and Jason," Aunt Jackie continued in her thick, Filipino accent, "You all need to find someone and settle down. You four aren't getting any younger."

She wagged her finger at her flabbergasted daughter.

"Mum!" she protested.

"No, sweetheart," Orlando's mom, Sonia, commented, "Jackie does have a point."

Orlando caught the most suspicious grin between the two mothers, although very briefly.

"We're not getting any younger, either," Sonia continued, "and I'd love to see some grandchildren of my own."

Sonia glanced over to her son with pursed lips, which resulted in Orlando making one of his funny faces and shrugging.

Looking over to her mother Sonia asked, "Wouldn't you love to see some great-grandchildren, too, mum?"

"Oh, yes!" the elderly woman cheered and clapped her hands.

Orlando heard Madeline snicker at him.

"So Madeline," he said quite cheekily.

"What is a girl like you taking up residence in the Kentish countryside?" he asked.

"A girl like me!" Madeline repeated in outrage.

"I'll have you know that I'm working on my newest project, thank you very much, in my lovely home, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!" she added.

The elders laughed.

"And what's that? I bet you're just napping under the shade of a tree most of the time," he continued.

She did a lot of that when she was younger. Whenever she could escape from Orlando and Jason's reckless escapades, she could be found leaning against a tree in the garden reading or drawing, and sometimes sleeping with books around her.

"Only some of the time," she mumbled.

Mason chuckled and commented, "She's working on a comic."

Then he corrected himself, "No, one of those Japanese-inspired graphic novels, isn't it love? What are they called again?"

"Manga, Dad," she replied.

She waited for Orlando's snide remark, but to her surprise he only looked intrigued.

"All the rage these days with the youth," Madison added proudly.

"You know, Orlando's just come from Japan," Sonia commented, as if they all didn't know.

"How was it, dear?" Nan asked her grandson.

Madeline smirked at him again. His plan for trapping her in their parents' guilt-trip backfired. He glared at her and then answered his beloved grandmother.

"It's really beautiful this time of year, Nan," he replied, "The cherry tree blossoms are blooming now, and the petals fall like snow with the wind. They're everywhere."

His grandmother sighed dreamily. "Just like I remember," she said.

Nan was quite the world traveler and adventure back in her day, a romantic as well, and this was exactly why he adored her, as did all who knew her.

"New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and even Antarctica," Mason said, "How very kind of you to come visit us here in boring, old Canterbury."

And Orlando fell for it. He was succumbing to the parental guilt-trip badly. Yes, this was his and Madeline's parents' new, favorite hobby; subjecting their offspring to guilt-trips to get their way. And their parents thought they were bad as children, with their tantrums and tears. Well, okay, maybe they were a little rotten. In his and Jason's case, very rotten.

Madeline snickered again, much to her own demise.

"You know," his grandmother said, "I'm not really comfortable with Maddy staying down in that country cottage all by herself."

She winked at her grandson and he leaned over the table to kiss her cheek.

"Silly, boy," she said.

"But Nan, you said you loved my cottage," Madeline replied, "And I've been living there almost two years now."

"I've actually worried, too," Sonia agreed and gave Jacqueline a secret look.

Immediately taking her cue Jacqueline added, "They're right. I don't know how safe it is for you to be out there with all those men."

"Mum!" Madeline whined, although she really did adore her hilariously vexing mother.

"There are hardly any men there, and most of them are married seniors or just plain married," Madeline replied.

"Most of them," Jacqueline repeated, "but not all."

"And besides, I live off a private road, which is gated thanks to the Miller's estate," Madeline added.

"And Mr. Miller?" Jacqueline asked.

"Oh, mum!" Madeline exasperated, "He's nearly eighty years old!"

Madeline quickly kissed Orlando's grandmother's cheek, "No offense, Nan."

"Quite alright, dear," Celia replied. "And I agree with you, he's looking pretty rough these days. Poor Martha has been looking at that same face for decades now."

"But they are lovely people, especially letting me buy the cottage on their property," Madeline said.

"Lovely people, indeed," Celia agreed, "Odd, but lovely. Kind of like my dear Madeline."

Madeline hung her head in defeat and Orlando burst into peals of laughter. God, he missed this frank, quick, flowing banter that the Blooms and Wentworths were notorious at delivering. It was better than any written script, and their favorite pastime.

"Orli, you're staying in Canterbury for while, right?" Jacqueline asked suddenly.

Madeline caught a very suspicious look passed between Aunt Sonia, Nan, and her mum. Her eyebrows furrowed in deep concentration. She sensed a conspiracy brewing.

"Yes, he is," Sonia answered very enthusiastically for her son.

"A-ha! Good!" Jacqueline proclaimed. "Orli, you will stay with Maddy while you are back in Kent."

The bomb dropped, as did Madeline's mouth. Orlando almost sputtered the beer he just sipped. Madeline should have known. `Those sneaky, meddling, old women,' she thought to herself. So this was what they were up to! Glare at them she might, but she loved all three women dearly. But by God, they had way too much time on their hands.

It had been weeks since Orlando had seen either man or Leopard and he had started to think that both somehow had been travellers passing through. He felt sad to have not learned who either were.

The night Fang and he had taken the ride and had their talk they had gone to Wren and his family. It was true that Wren was the last on his mother's side, but there were a lot of Arcadian Snow Leopards he had no clue about. He hadn't recognized the description of the Leopard that Orlando had given him. But Orlando thought that it could very well be one of those he had met and at first the Panther felt hesitant as to whether he wanted to learn more. Often he had heard and learned that Arcadians were more scheming than the Katagaria, but it also made Orlando curious as to how he could feel any attraction to one.

Since that night Orlando often thought back to the animal and guy. When both seemed to have disappeared he felt very disappointed, like he had missed something before it even had started. Though he wasn't really surprised, as it was rare that things went the way he wanted. One thing he was happier about was that his leg had improved considerably and he tried to work his muscles so it wouldn't give way as easily. As each day went past Orlando also felt that he was getting stronger and his magic was working more like it should. Fang spent a lot of time with him when neither of them were working. Orlando suspected the Wolf did that so things would not get any worse with Aimee, even if according to her they spent too little time together.

That it was Christmas didn't help Orlando's mood. All the Peiltiers seemed to find it easy to get into the Christmas spirit, and as a lone Panther Orlando was reminded all too well of how much a family time it was. For him he had to go back to the time he had been a little cub for him to have had anything resembling a family. But even then there had been tension so any festive occasion hadn't always been joyful.

On Christmas Day Sanctuary was closed. Orlando took part in the celebrations and he tried to show that he was grateful to be there despite what he actually felt. Over the years he had come to learn that it didn't matter if it was a festival, he would not be treated any better or feel solidarity with anyone. There was every chance that someone would try to fight him, irrespective of what day it was.

The evening began with a table groaning with food, which all of the Were-hunters living at Sanctuary shared. It was a great atmosphere. Christmas songs were being played and some of the Were's sang along.

Orlando was with them, but at the same time felt that he was watching them interact from afar.

One part of him wished he could have his own family with whom he could celebrate with, but he knew that would probably never happen. Not with his parents or siblings. For a moment his thoughts went to Sean and wondered what he was doing now. They were only half brothers and Sean was several years older. They had different mothers and Sean's had died long ago. When everything had started Sean had been the one that tried to help him, but even Sean was scared as to what the others were doing and they might have been as hard on him as well. Now it had been months since Orlando had seen him. If they had been in the same time period he probably would have called, but when Orlando had left he had jumped forward in time. Going back wasn't something Orlando wanted to do.

Justin, the other Panther resident at Sanctuary came forward to where Orlando was sitting. They hadn't spoken much even if they were of the same breed, though they came from different patria.

"Hard isn't it?" he said. "Seeing a family interact while you stand alone."

Orlando wanted to put him off by saying what do you know, but didn't as he knew that Justin hadn't had it easy either.

"Yeah. It makes you wish things had turned out differently. Though we should probably be happy we are alive," Orlando said instead.

"Do you think they would try again, that they will find you?"

"Their hate goes too deep so they will not stop. Hopefully it will be a long time before they succeed. Maybe my half brother is trying to stall them, as long as they do not turn on him."

"It's shit, but you have to do what you have to do." With those words Justin walked away.

Orlando considered whether he should go back to his room, but he would feel as much alone there as where he was now. The music changed in the jukebox and Orlando had to smile when Lynyard Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama could be heard. Tonight no one would need to be warned that Acheron had arrived. Looking at the dancing people and those that were still sitting tables told him that actually Ash had arrived with a few others. Four people had gone to Fang and Aimee. The woman among them seemed to get the most attention, as she holding a little boy by the hand and she was visibly pregnant.

More happy people, Orlando thought, sighing. Ash had gone to talk to the Peltiers. Orlando decided that, instead of going up, he should get himself another special drink. He headed behind the bar. Looking for the right one, he was interrupted when someone spoke to him.

"Excuse me. Is there possible to get a clean glass and something to drink?"

Orlando had to turn around to face the person. Involuntarily he purred. He knew that he should say something, but for a moment he didn't know what. In front of him stood the man he had a look at a few weeks earlier. This time the man was wearing more casual clothes. No suit, but a green shirt with a red pocket handkerchief. He had rolled up the sleeves, showing that he wore a Casio watch. He let his eyes travel up to the man's face and was met by those green eyes. This time they weren't coloured by the concern they had held last time. Orlando wasn't sure what they showed, but he would certainly say it was joyful.

"Do you have a glass or are you just going to stand there?" the man asked.

"Sorry, of course I can fix you a drink. Is there anything special you want?" Orlando finally found his voice.

"Probably something that suits us Were's."

Orlando saw that the man didn't joke, and he was surprised. He hadn't realised that the man was a Were-hunter, but then Orlando remembered from last time that he had tried to pick up the scent of the man and hadn't got one. That should have told him that the man could not have been a human. He wrinkled his nose to see if he could ascertain what sort of Were the man could be, but the man was good at masking his scent and Orlando still couldn't get one. Very slowly he took a new glass and turned his back to the man so he could fill it. When it was ready he turned back to give it to the man.

"Thank you." The man smiled.

"There you are Panther," Ash's voice came from behind the man. "I see that you have met Viggo."

Orlando turned his gaze towards Ash. As usual, the Dark-hunter was wearing his goth clothes, while his hair was black with a red streak.

"Hello Ash. What brings you here?" Orlando asked.

"You, actually. Bring your glass and we will head to your room as the others don't need to know what we are going to discuss."

With a slight shrug Orlando took his glass and did as Ash said. When he opened the door to the residence he looked back and saw that not only Ash was following him, but Viggo was as well. He stopped, not sure if he should let him in, for Peltiers were cautious.

"It's alright. Viggo is with me and he's here as a favour," Ash clarified, sensing Orlando's unasked question.

Reassured by Ash's comment, Orlando continued. Coming to the stairs he hesitated. He hated the stairs as he knew it took time for him to go up because of his leg. Every time he had to climb the stairs pain went through his knee.

With the stranger there he didn't want to show his pain, so he starting walking up the stairs. He was happy that he was the one in the lead so they could not see his strained expression.

When they were inside his room Ash went straight to the point. "First, I really want to introduce Viggo Mortensen to you. I've called him in for a favour that would help you."

Orlando looked between the men and stopped at Ash. "Help me with what?"

"To take a message from you to Sean. And also to learn what plans your family has for you."

"But haven't you said that you should not try to change things?"

"I'm acquainted with the law, but sometimes sadly you have to step in when things look as if they are about to go totally wrong." Ash paused, and then continued, "Especially when things change from what they are supposed to be."

"I know that I can't go there and I don't want to. It was bad enough what I was exposed to, and if I hadn't managed to do the time jump I would have been dead by now. All I can hope for is that it does not make things worse." Orlando sat down on his bed, not believing he could stand much longer. "Though I have to ask: How would… Viggo be able to make it without putting himself into any danger, as I would not want him to be hurt. No one should have to do that, especially not one that isn't from the same patria."

"Viggo has a few advantages," Ash began, but Viggo interrupted him.

"I'm not a panther, and Ash believes they would not be as suspicious of me and won't guess the real reason when I turn up. That I have no scent that anyone can sense makes it easier for me to get close."

"That was why I didn't get anything from you earlier…" Orlando mumbled.

"Not even the best tracker is able to get even the tiniest scent of me," Viggo said.

"Not even when you are in your…" Orlando started, but could not say which animal he was.

"…in my animal form. Not if I don't want to and it isn't all that often I change into my snow Leopard form," Viggo ended the sentence.

Orlando looked at the man, studying him. It was had hard for Orlando to see him in animal form, but then something fell into place. Viggo just told him he was a snow Leopard. When Orlando had been in the park and met the Leopard it must have been him. The one that inspired safety rather than retreat.

"How long have you been here? Have we met before?" Orlando asked him.

"Yes we have. When Acheron asked me to do this I wanted to see you first before we actually met."

"It *was* you in the park! I tried to learn about you and Fang even introduced me to Wren so I could try and find out if he knew of you."

"Wren does not know," Ash broke in.

"Yeah, we learned that. How come it is said that Wren was the last one?"

"Wren is the last one on the Katagaria line. There are a few patrias of the Arkadian, which Viggo comes from," Ash answered.

"How is your knee? It didn't look good when your friends came and helped you," Viggo asked, to also confirm it was him that night.

"It isn't good at all. Carson wants to operate on it, but he can't promise it will hold for an eternity. Did you hear my mind speaking?"

"Yes, but as I didn't want to reveal myself I tried not to act in any way that might have given me away, so I kept silent. How is it that your leg is so frail?" Viggo looked worried.

"That is a story Orlando can tell you later. Viggo, if you leave us for a moment I need to talk to Orlando alone," Ash said before either could continue to talk.

Viggo nodded, turned around and went out.

"I often do not ask things twice, but do you want me to fix your leg? You might need a healthy one." Ash asked Orlando when they heard the door close.

"I would, as I really have learnt and felt what a weakness it is for me. If it hadn't been damaged so many times I may have been able to escape much easier when I was back in England."

Ash came to him and put his hands on Orlando's leg. Orlando was ready to scream and breathe through the pain he was sure he would feel, but all he felt was the warmth that radiated from Ash's hands. After a minute when Ash asked him to bend and test it, Orlando was surprised that he had no pain in it.

"Change into a Panther and test it that way too."

Orlando did as Ash asked him to. At first it felt right, but when he tried to take the jump from the floor up onto the bed Orlando felt the hind-leg not cooperate and he landed on the edge.

"I'm sorry Orlando. Wait and I will try again."

Orlando stayed calm, knowing that Ash didn't want to hurt him. He felt Ash stroking his leg before the hands stopped on the knee. Again he could feel the warmth radiating through his leg.

After Ash was finished he asked Orlando to try again. This time everything was okay and there was no instability when Orlando stood or jumped. He changed back to human.

"Thank you. It feels very good now – better than it has been in a long time." Orlando started to dress as he didn't like his nudity.

"It should be as I've restored it. Having done that, I hope you are not angry with me bringing Viggo and I hope that you will trust him."

"I'm not angry, only very surprised that anyone wants to help me. Sean tried but when they turned on him he had to stop, otherwise he would have lost his own family. I got burnt too many times to trust anyone else other than myself…" The words got stuck in Orlando's throat.

"You don't have to explain it to me. I know your story and that’s why I helped you. You are more than worth it. Sadly I know how it feels to be treated badly." Ash become silent and he seemed to listen to something. "I haven't informed Viggo that much about you, so take this day to speak with him and then we can hope things are resolved before the New Year."

Orlando looked at Ash. The guy didn't look any older than twenty and if he hadn't met him a few times and learnt that the Dark-hunter was much older than himself Orlando probably would not have believed anything Ash would have said. As it was, Orlando was far from ready to accept that what Ash said was true. The times Orlando thought things would work out well, they never did.

"You are still suspicious." Ash said. "I need to leave…"

The next moment Orlando was alone in his room. He wasn't sure what he had been doing, what he had gone up there to do. A vague memory lingered that he been talking with Acheron and someone else that he should trust. Orlando had a feeling he didn't want to be alone, so he buttoned his shirt he must have opened. He shook his head and went to the door. Reaching the stairs he did the tweaking he had come to do every time he walked up or down, but as all would be celebrating Christmas he had to go down.

Only after a few steps he looked down on his right leg. He did not feel any pain and it actually bent without any problem. Ash obviously had fixed it for him, but how Orlando didn't know. He wanted to test it a little more so he ran down the rest of the stairs and was very happy when nothing happened. The next time he met Ash Orlando would have to thank him, for he knew that he owed the Dark-hunter.

Orlando burst through the door to the pub, deciding that he wanted to get out and try to have some fun.

"Oh wow, look at you!" Aimee's voice made him to stop. "What brought about this change of mood, Panther?"

Surprising her Orlando embraced and twirled her around. Aimee giggled and when she was put back down he gave her a kiss on the cheek. Next moment he had several of her brothers surrounding them.

"You don't think you could try to get away with snatching our Bearswan, do you?" Dev's deep voice warned him.

"Calm down! It's Christmas and can't I for once show some happiness?" Orlando turned to him with his hands open.

Dev looked him up and down. "Okay…" he drawled out, "as long as you don’t do it with me." Dev managed to smile, but he kept a lethal gaze in his eyes.

With Orlando's reply the others backed away and Orlando could relax some. Before Dev walked away he leaned in and said, "Lucky for you that we are at Sanctuary and that the Wolf didn't see you."

Orlando looked around and could see that Fang was occupied with the little child that had come earlier. The next person he saw was the man he had talked to and he felt drawn towards him, so he went to him.

"Finished talking with Ash?" the man asked.

"Uhm, yes. It's Viggo isn't it?"

The man smiled so his dimples showed clearly and there was a gleam in his eyes. "That's right Panther. So Ash did his little magic on you. You do remember what I'm here for, don't you?"

Orlando blinked. "Yeah, he said I should try and trust you, but I'm…" Orlando looked at the others for a moment. "He also said that you would help me with the problem I have had with my family for centuries."

Even Viggo looked around. "I would like to hear more about it, but I would guess this isn't the right place to talk."

"It is certainly not the right place; you never know who is listening. No one here knows my full story and I want it to stay that way." Orlando had placed himself as close as he could to Viggo so that no one could hear what they were talking about.

"I understand. Like you, I prefer discretion." Viggo agreed with the Panther.

"Good, though there are a few things I want to know from you before we go anywhere."

"That's alright, I promise to answer as truthfully I can."

Orlando took a deep breath, not knowing what reaction or answers he would get. He really didn't know if he dared to trust Viggo, even if Ash had indicated that he should.

"Tell me the truth why you really agreed to do this… for a Katagaria and for someone that isn't even your race?" If Orlando had found it hard to believe in his own race, how would it be from an Arcadian? His encounters with Arcadians had not been the best either.

"I believe that everyone is valuable and should not be killed in cold blood because they are Arcadian or Katagaria. I want to see everyone live side by side, though those that take innocence lives should not be able to continue to live. I have tried to follow this, especially after the way myself was treated."

Viggo turned and, when Orlando looked as to why, they were met by the sight of a little boy running towards them. He stopped in front of Viggo, not saying anything.

"Please Trace, you should not bother them," said the man who followed the child.

The child turned and started tugging on the man's trousers. The man looked a lot like Fang, but had longer hair and gave out a much more fearsome aura. He picked up the boy, who whispered something in his ear.

"Trace wants you to come and join us when it's time to open the Christmas presents. He likes to have a lot of people around him, even though he's shy at times." The man stretched out the hand that didn't hold Trace. "I'm Vane Kattalakis, Fang's brother and this little guy's father." After the greeting he stroked the hair from the boy's face.

"Who can say no to a little guy," Viggo said and was rewarded with a little smile from Trace. "I think we can continue to talk later; we are safe for now."

Orlando nodded in agreement; he didn't want to be the one to dampen things. Together they walked to where everyone else was. If Orlando wasn't mistaken it looked like more people had joined. Trace wriggled in his father's arms and was put down on the floor. This time he rushed to Fang and his mother, though he didn't stay long as he spotted another little boy.

Later when the children had gotten their presents and everything seemed to calm down Viggo and Orlando withdrew to Orlando’s room.

The good spirit surrounding them made Orlando manage to ask Viggo a few more personal questions. He knew that he did it for two reasons: one because he felt a different attraction towards the Leopard than he usually did; the other reason was that he could prolong having to talk about himself. He was so used to not doing so that he didn’t know how it would go.

“Have you met your mate?†Orlando began.

“I think that would be hard. Mostly it seems like the mating thing is between a female and a male. I have yet to meet a female that stirs anything in me.†There was no hesitation in Viggo’s answer.

“So you don’t miss having any children?â€

“No. What I have seen and lived through it would need to change quite drastically if I was going to search for a female mate and bring children to the world.†He stopped and Orlando could see him thinking and weighing his words. “Maybe, maybe if there were only two of us left I would think about it. I would hate for our race to die out.â€

Orlando nodded, feeling the same way. He moved back on his bed so that he was leaning against the wall. At the same time he drew his legs up and put his arms around them.

“What about you Orlando? Have you met anyone or been searching for a mate?†Viggo asked.

The moment came for Orlando to tell his history to Viggo as Ash had told him to do. He knew the question sounded harmless, but it was a loaded one, nevertheless. He put his head on his knees, trying to hide the fact that he had started to breathe a little quicker. Often he tried to not think about it and was happy as long he didn't need to be more than fully alert for anything to happen. Orlando didn't know when it would start again. At the same time he wanted so much for it all to be over, and if Ash was correct Viggo really needed to hear his story. He understood the importance in having all the facts, knowing then you would make fewer mistakes later on.

He lifted his head and dried the few tears that already started down his cheeks. "With being hunted and on the run for so long finding a mate hadn't really crossed my mind all that much. My instinct has been to survive. I wouldn't want to draw someone else in. When there has been a breather the thought might have been there, but those moments have been brief."

Orlando's tears, by then, had stopped completely. "Some can't imagine how hard and exhausting the life really can be. It has been going on for so many years that I have lost count, and I do wish it would end sometimes with me still living."

"I have learned how it can be and I'm mostly hired or asked to negotiate between parties. To do so you have to talk to me; tell me everything." Viggo sat on the chair, waiting.

Nodding, Orlando silently said okay.

Several hours later he was exhausted after all the talking, answering questions from Viggo. Actually he had never talked as much as he had done this night. Viggo had left at dawn saying he would come back as soon as he had any information. He had taken a message from Orlando to his brother Sean and that was one thing Orlando had appreciated the most as Sean was the one he really missed.

The minute Orlando had been left alone he had switched to his Panther form as he then didn't need to use so much magic. There wasn't much else he could do except sleep while he was waiting.

Dearest fellow OBFF members,

I hope you are all well. Fall is lovely, isn't it?

As previously stated, I began writing a story last year titled "The Late Bloomer" under two different screennames, sweetsugarheart and mustlove fairycakes. Now you know the basis of my newest and permanent screenname, mustlovesugarheart.

Anyway, I thought about continuing the story but couldn't. Although, I was inspired to write "In Full Bloom". It's actually a combination of ideas I had for Orlando Bloom fan fics dating back to 2004 and "The Late Bloomer. It's also an homage to a brilliant fan fic I read on the now closed "Man In The Mirror" Orlando Bloom fan fic website. It was called "Dreams" written by superherogirl. I've made my OFC a Filipino-English mixed Brit in honor of that story's OFC, Hero Guevarra. (You can read the story at the author's website: http://musingsinstarlight.yuku.com/)

"In Full Bloom" sort of falls into the same category as Idea #4  for the first Member Fan Fic Challenge, so I've decided to submit it as such. I hope you like it.

Cheers and stay warm,

Saffron (a pen name, obviously)

RATING: ...ranging between PG13-R, primarily, and then NC-17 eventually, although not too frequently

TYPE or WARNINGS: ... Romance/Comedy

ORLANDO: ... as himself

ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS: ...OFC/Madeliene Wentworth (and a few made-up, supporting characters)

DISCLAIMER:...I don't know (or own) Orlando Bloom or any other celebrities, celebrity family members, or entourage mentioned in this fictional story. SUMMARY:...It is Spring 2009 and Orlando is on hiatus after suffering multiple, devastating blows to his career and his personal life.

PROLOGUE

He could cry. Or perhaps he should cry. What with Sidi gone after being hit by a car, and Miranda gone after realizing that Orlando wanted to settle down faster than she did, it was easily understandable that Orlando would finally succumb to the horrible reviews and critiques on his latest acting endeavors. Was his career, his long-time dream, also gone? Or maybe it just served its time...like Sidi. Like Miranda.

Orlando sighed. Miranda had been so ideal. She was beautiful, adventurous, caring and even Buddhist, like himself. He should also mention that she was really good in bed as well. Their careers were well matched. She'd accompany him on film sets because her job wasn't too demanding upon her time, and he'd follow her to her modelling gigs around the world too. She just seemed so right for him and his lifestyle. They just "got" eachother, or so Orlando thought.

Orlando sighed again. His beloved dog was gone. His girlfriend, the woman he thought he'd marry and have a family with, was gone. His career was possibly going too with these new batch of handsome boys coming into the business.

He wasn't sure if he felt angry or sad by it all. He did feel a tad empty...and confused...and his left foot did tingle most excruciatingly after sitting in this meditation pose for three hours chanting with the rest of the Buddhist pilgrims and congregation.

He then diverted his attention from the agonizing tingle and instead focused on the beautiful scenery around him. Mount Fuji was beautifully capped in snow in the distance, which contrasted the new Spring life coming to be in late March. His chanting slowly ceased as he wistfully diverted his attention to the nature surrounding him. He listened to the soft gurgle of the stream and the cheerful twitter of birds somewhere nearby. His eyes followed the floating petals of cherry blossoms from the trees. A pair of butterflies playfully flitted by and...

Then Orlando realized that he was alone sitting in the wooden, zen room. How long had he been lost in his reverie? Only one, elderly monk remained with him. He was one of the most revered monks in the monastery, considered a man of great mystery and of few words. But, when the monk did speak his words were always very wise and even prophetical, at times. This is what Orlando had been hoping and waiting for.

"Come," the monk said.

The old man pushed up on one knee and Orlando quickly went to assist him, forgetting that his foot had fallen asleep. 'Pins and needles, Pins and needles', he thought to himself and winced.

The monk chuckled and stamped his foot.

"Me too," he said.

Quietly the monk walked towards the gardens and Orlando followed him in attentive silence.

The monk took Orlando under one of the cherry trees and searched for something. Upon finding what he was looking for he pointed to an unopened cherry blossom bud with his wooden cane.

"This is you," he said in his deep, stern, thickly accented voice.

Orlando looked harder at the unopened blossom and hoped to gain deeper meaning.

The monk looked at Orli and said, as-matter-of-factly, "You are missing something."

Orlando looked at the monk in wonder.

The old man looked Orlando dead in the eye and said, "You must go back to the beginning."

He allowed a silent pause to help stress upon his point.

"Go back to the start," he continued but Orlando was still bewildered. It was like trying to understand Yoda.

The monk sighed and shook his head making Orlando feel like an imbecile.

"Go back to you childhood home," the monk finally revealed with a chuckle.

Although still confused, Orlando chuckled too and nodded.

Patting Orlando's hand the monk said, "There you will find what you are looking for."

The monk then reached up and placed a hand on Orlando's head. Orlando bowed and closed his eyes as the monk chanted a prayer over him.

"Arigato," Orlando thanked the monk.

The monk nodded and then swiftly caught an intact cherry blossom that had been floating in the sudden breeze. Orlando was astonished by the man's quick reflexes, for his age, and even more shocked when the monk handed him the caught blossom.

"Go there now," the monk said, "And like this blossom you, too, will bloom."

With that the monk walked away humming to himself. Orlando stared at him disbelievingly. For the first time in months he wanted to genuinely laugh. 'Like this blossom you, too, will bloom'. It was too comical, with the heavily accented switcheroo of the monks "r"s and "l"s along with the fact that Orlando's last name was, indeed, Bloom. Or Broom, to the monk. But not wanting to show disrespect, Orlando grinned happily. It was a blessing and a sign, probably the most blatant sign ever given to man. It was a big and bold arrow telling him to "GO HERE".

So now he was meant to go back to Canterbury, Kent, the home of his youth, but Orlando was still unsure about what it was that he was missing. He hoped that he'd find out what when he got there. He twirled the blossom between his thumb and index finger. It had been a while since he had been back. The thought of returning filled him with an unexpected sense of warmth and hope. With his mind made up he gently tossed the blossom into the koi pond along with the other floating petals.

After "Whip It," Lewis' next on-screen appearance will be in Mark Ruffalo's directorial debut, "Sympathy for Delicious," which is expected to show at the Sundance Film Festival in January. She plays a drug-abusing bass player in the indie drama and says Ruffalo was an "incredible revelation" as a director. "We had a profound creative experience. I think I did something exciting; he does [too]."

So next year we might finally see something new from Orlando.

I'm not sure how the G20 Summit is being reported in other parts of the world but this is really what's going on here. Why in the world they wanted to have it in a downtown area like Pittsburgh is beyond me! They couldn't have honesty thought that there wouldn't be protesters like this?

Police clash with protesters, students in Oakland

Margaret Harding
TRIBUNE-REVIEW

A clash between protestors and police escalated Thursday night in Oakland as curious University of Pittsburgh students ventured to the demonstration.

The protest began near Schenley Plaza at about 9 p.m. and moved throughout Oakland. Police arrested 42 people. Six people were injured, including three officers, police said. None were seriously injured, said Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard.

Police in riot gear stood along Fifth Avenue at:30 p.m. as students gathered and mocked Group of 20 Summit protestors, said Pitt freshman Zack Doyle.

"When they were protesting, they were mad at the students because they were making fun of them," Doyle said of people he described as anarchists, wearing all black with masks.
Police gave an order to disperse and began firing tear gas. Students scattered and regrouped throughout Oakland, at times chanting "Let's Go Pitt" and "this is our campus."
The atmosphere turned destructive along Forbes Avenue, where storefronts including Pamela's Diner were smashed in. Windows at the campus police station also were damaged. Businesses on South Craig Street also were vandalized, including Irish Design Center and Quiznos.

Freshman Danielle Mayor said she ran from tear gas and tried to return to her dorm, but wasn't allowed back in.

"They're not letting anyone back in," she said. "We have friends and we're going to stay there."

Police herded groups of students along Forbes and Fifth avenues in an effort to disperse the crowds. Students complained of being hit with rubber bullets and mace. The crowd was mostly cleared just after midnight. For some students, the disturbance was a strange end to night that began in toga costumes. More than a dozen people could be seen wandering campus wearing sheets and little else as police patrolled.

From his vantage point in Forbes Hall, freshman Michael Watson said he watched as police officers arrested two pedestrians near the gas station across the street.

"I don't know if they beat them, but they subdued them pretty well," Watson said.
The officers quickly were joined by police vans and Budget Rental trucks to pick up the two, Watson said. Many Budget trucks were used by police in the area to transport officers and detainees.

Watson's roommate, Brian Moeller, blamed the G-20 dignitaries' dinner at nearby Phipps Conservatory and curious students for the incident.

"Why would you have anything at Phipps?" Moeller asked. "Most of them were college students. They were just looking for trouble.

Hey guys,

Very good article in most places and as he says why is it that the blame for a badly written/directed/edited/cast movie is always the actors fault. I loved Troy (still do) and as Renee said Orlando played the character of Paris as he was.  In the original story Paris was a 15 year old boy who, as is so today, ruled by his hormones.  How many 15yo boys could fight like a man. I do wish they had actually added two things into the story that were left out, Paris’ twin sister, Cassandra, who foretold the downfall of Troy by Paris’ stupidity and the death of Paris before he got out of Troy after killing Achilles.

Kingdom of Heaven was a good movie, the director’s cut much, much better, and I think Orlando did a great job as Balian.  As the writer basically said, Kingdom of Heaven was not Gladiator II.

Orlando is doing fine and I will continue to love his work and yes if I don’t like a movie he does I will say so. Elizabethtown wasn’t the best but Orlando and Kirsten did well with what they had.  Cameron Crowe wrote and directed it and I think the downfall should lie more with him than OB.

And yes Renee, I love Twilight (movie and books, though books more) and I can still agree with you some of the movie is not good, for which I want to throttle the director and writer and some of the acting is not the best either.  I love Rob as Edward and some of the others too but I think some casting was a little out.  I even think Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) was miscast and I adore the guy that plays him, he’s a little cutie. But I get that some don’t like it, they are the sort of books that appeal to a certain type of person.  My best friend of 20+ years has not watched the movie or read any of the books because she has no interest in them, they aren’t her type of book. She also hated/loathed/detested the book Da Vinci Code because “it’s so badly written” and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Not everyone has to like the same thing.

As for Orlando he does have a few movies coming out, by the looks of it most are indie movies but I hope to see them here and enjoy watching our baby on the big screen again.

Oh and Renee, get a program and download Calcium Kid, there out there.

Ok I guess I can forgive you. Ok speaking of Orlando, I started reading a book today at work at there's a brief mention of Lord  of the rings in there the author described Orlando's character as that blonde elf guy I had to chuckle. Good to know the literary community and authors know who he is.

Hi,

I read the article... and if you any interested about Orlando you would know he have done a few things. No big roles as Legolas, Will, Balian, but he haven't been totally unworking.
What we have to wait for is Sympathy of Deliscius - Orlando as a Rockstar, Main Street - he playing a cop (see attachment) and then it is talk about him star in a film called The Cross - a sci fi movie and there he would have a bigger role.

I don't think we can expect him to get the big blockbusters all the time. He just was very lucky to do several of them so early after finished school. Look at Johnny Depp how many movis didn't he done before he really did the big ones (even though he never bothered if the film would be a hit or not.) Then there is quite large number of actors that want to be big and it is a lot that compete about the public.

Of the record, I think we are more that do like Twilight. I so look forward to see New Moon, and when we do not have any new Orlando movie they can be as good as well.

Hehehe!  Yeah, I do get annoyed when critics say Orli can't act.  Besides, if the critics want a movie to complain about, they should watch "Twilight" - talk about bad acting.  (Sorry Tracey, I know you like it.)

I will watch for the Calcium Kid on Comedy Central.

Okay, okay, now settle down, Renee ... we all feel your pain! LOL

Wasn't the writer saying that Elizabethtown was just a crappy movie to begin with and had nothing to do with whether Orlando's acting was good or not? One of the few things in the article that I didn't agree with by the way.

Troy and Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) are 2 movies that will forever be favorites of mine. And I don't necessarily think it's entirely because of Orlando being in them. I just really liked them both and anytime they're on TV I'll definitely stop and watch. I'll never forget reading a review that called Troy a "snore fest". Made me SO angry to read that!

I know The Calcium Kid has been on Comedy Central a bunch of times coz that's the only way I got to see it! Keep looking on TVGuide.com to see if it's gonna be on again soon.

I have to agree, Terri.

And as far as Elizabeth town goes, why is it all Orlando's fault?  Why doesn't Kirsten Dunst take any of the criticism.  I know her part wasn't quite as big, but still. . .

And personally, I liked Kingdom of Heaven because it wasn't just a war movie.  It actually required thinking by Orli's character.

And I have to agree with the writer's assessment of Paris.  Orlando played a character!  It wasn't the greatest movie ever, but geez, give me a break.  It wasn't only Orli's fault.  There were plenty of other big names in that movie.

Thanks for this article.  Very good and interesting.  I hope to see Orlando working again soon.  I don't mind the smaller films, but we don't get as many of them here in the US and that annoys me.  I still want to see Calcium Kid (I think that was the name of it).
