This place has been created for fun really, to be a site where editorial staff can bare their beefs and share ideas. It's not meant to be a soap box but a place where humour can blend with facts.
As this a UK based Group, one particular 'beef' might be the on going conditions under which Editors/Assistant Editors have to labour. These include the 'All In Deal' This gives producers the power to shorten schedules and increase workloads at the drop of a hat without any compensation for the editorial team. These commonly extended hours cause stress and lack of moral. And you can't even tell your wife 'Think of the money'!
Anyone with a voice or interest in the topic is welcome to start/join in with discussions about editing techniques and procedures.
Lets also encourage the sharing of technical problems encountered during your daily routines.
I started work in the film industry in as an assistant-editor and have over 10 years freelance cutting-room experience I was trained at Shepperton Studios on "The Jigsaw Man" one of Terence Young’s last films, made in 1982.
In those days, film was edited using mechanical viewing machines and hand stitched together by a highly skilled editor backed up by equally dedicated assistants. Recent advances in technology, the introduction of Non-Linear computers like Avid into the editing/sound editing room has radically changed the way the crewing of an editing department happens. I think it's time the rule book is re-written.
