Dianne Wiest - The oldest child, and only daughter, of an army pilot and a nurse, Dianne was moved around a great deal in her youth due to her father's military career. At sixteen, she abandoned the study of ballet in favor of the theater. Having begun her acting career by touring with the American Shakespeare Company, she won the Obie, Clarence Derwent and Theater World Awards for Best Actress for her performance in the off-Broadway play The Art of Dining. It's My Turn (1980) marked her feature film debut, and was followed by I'm Dancing as Fast as I Can and the surprise hit Footloose in 1984. But it was 1985's The Purple Rose of Cairo that earned her wide exposure and kicked off an incredibly rich string of indelible performances in five Woody Allen films, two of which earned her Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress.
