can we now get back to talking smack about each other's preferred
products?

...sounds like 2 men fighting over who has the largest bucket on a
sinking ship...

and yes. that ship being Avid.

30I source.
Mostly talking heads, so didn't notice the herky jerky.
No access to a symphony, so I guess it's no sleep this weekend.

Thanks

Those are the correct numbers I got from Sony too. On an SR-5500 the menu is
called HDCAM VANC PACKET SELECT. I was also informed that the 5500 deck only
plays back line 09 and not 572. This came up because I know someone having
issues trying to clone a CC'd HDCam master using a JH3 deck as the playback
source to the SR-5500 record deck. The resulting dub has gibberishy characters
repeated etc on the CC. Their work around is to just make the clone through
their CC inserter and all is well. According to Sony the JH3 plays back both
line 09 and 572 and this can cause issues on some decoders. The suggestion was
to zero out the line2 572 to 0 and see if that clears up the clones CC info. I
couldn't confirm if line 2 572 is just duplicate info much like the two lines of
VITC in SD but that's what I think it is. Love to know for sure.

Sony the deck will always output the anc. data but will only record it if a menu

well.  For a 5500 take a breath and go;

Perhaps one of our more savey CC experts can chime in. The path is similar on
the 1800 consult your manual. Unfortunately I don't have a machine in front of

I'm confused, was your original source 23.98 on a 29.97 frame tape? If so, and
you followed the proper cadence, then you actually have a proper 23.98 master.
If you have access to a Symphony you can output it as a 30 frame conversion
without any problems.

If your sources were not 23.98, how come you didn't notice them being herky
jerky in the movement?

Next option is to go the EDL route. You will lose effects, titles, etc. But all
of your shots will be there and motion effects and dissolves should be there for
the most part. I have to admit, I've never gone in the 23.98 to 30 direction via
edl before. Just follow Michael Philips' directions in reverse.

This project also has significant amounts of Avid pan&scan work.

I need to get this out to 30I DVCam for air at a local station, and it's

All,

Please don't stereotype the DS Community by letting the words of a few be taken
as representative of the DS Community as a whole. It is not the 'DS Group' that
is responsible for or condoning any 'personal attacks'. The DS-List, like the
Avid-L2, consists of dedicated, often overly passionate professionals. Whatever
the case, please try and leave the 'DS Group' out of it.

Thanks,

-Gus

I just stuffed a QT using DropStuff to a .zip file.  To test it on my edit

unstuffed the file.  Is this Archive Utility standard on Macs?  Still finding

I asked:

Still unclear. Sort of beta, I guess, but working. Need to have the card to
run Rocket Cine-X, from what I understand.

Need a PCI-e x16 physical slot providing at least 8 lanes (x8) and 2048 MB
RAM. Support for OSX 10.5, Win XP2 (Vista to come) or Linux (Red Hat). So
that means no room for that card in my MC-Mojo, as far as I can tell. Would
need another workstation to run it.

MXF files are now supported in RocketCine-X with DNxHD 36-220. Burn is will
add to the transcode times, but the increase in transcode time is not that
significant. Processor, Ram and Drive speed will help increase transcode
times, however the RED Rocket will be doing almost all the work.

>> , and can you use this on daily dailies?

No solid answer so far.

>> Is it shipping, or are you one of the happy few selected to start using this
>> device?

No answers about availability or European shipping times yet.

Determined to share more of this info once I get it, as I'm sure it will
benefit others like me.

I'm reposting my question in the hope someone out there had had any
success. I'm not interested in new applications. I need to use the
training version of Avid|DS, and don't want to install it on my Media
Composer system. Aside from bying a new PC (with Vista or Windows 7),
my only other option is to install to the FAT32 partition on my MacBook
Pro, running the configuration descibed below. Thanks. --Jesstator--

partitioning & networking requirements of such an installation?

I have a Media Composer system with a first-generation MOJO standing-by
if the MacBook Pro/Boot Camp option isn't viable, yet would like to
avoid mixing two Avid editing products on that system. The PDF file for
the most recent version of Avid|DS Training Edition(v10. 1.2) indicates
the SOFTWARE-ONLY version of Media Composer is compatable. Can anyone
confirm this, and whether leaving a first-generation MOJO attached will
affect functionality of the DS (or Media Composer) software?"

No Oliver, that was MY point. Read my first reply on this thread.

Terry's main point is that this will hurt the DS community, read HIS
first post on the thread.

Terry always changes his argument depending on who he's replying to,
and he quotes out of context in an expert way that tells me exactly
what kind of editor he is.

Which is Terry's point. Why wouldn't a house prefer an FC Studio + Mac Smoke
environment over an all-Avid environment if it is so dire?

Or an FC Studio + Quantel combo, which has a lot of attractiveness, too. Or in
Ian's case - FC Studio + Assimilate ;-)

hi List!

does anyone know where I can get a test image with a 10-bit gradient that
includes 1024 values (ideally across an image 1024px wide)? I'd like an
image that I can pass trough a pipeline and make sure all 10-bits of color
data are being preserved.

I tried to create this in photoshop, but none of the blending modes create
an image whose code values increase linearly. Maybe theres an easy way to
do this in photoshop that I don't know about.

Thanks!
-Nat

Actually Rubin has a stuffed duck at home and it is very life like. In fact he
uses it to do total conform on most of the Reality shows posted in LA. Have
